can you keep together, i have two boars at the moment in a 4ft two tier hutch

thanks

I would only ever keep two boars together; sometimes a trio of laid back boars works out, but not often and quartets rarely make it for long.

ok x

i have the piggie bug lol, they are they kids two but i already what more lol

i will stick to two boars then

thanks x

If you want more, you'd better get another hutch! I know myself how easy it is to succumb to the lure, although I have kept to two piggies myself for five years!

:) i do have the hutch my piggies where in b4 but its only 3 ft so i just got the 4ft two tier so they had more space so couldn't get two more and put them in the small hutch i would feel bad lol

I have a trio and a quad of boars but certainly dont advise trying it, i have gone through many hours of bonding and some piggies were temporarily left without friends due to clashing with there previous mate because i added more pigs and it upset the balance.
I'm about to add a 4th pig to my trio but the risks are great so I'm still considering not doing it, the only reason i need to do so is that Ralph has becoe to dominant for his own good and needs a slightly tougher but reserved pig to take him down a notch or two.
The other issue is that you could potentially end up with all pigs single from fighting.
The cage sizes have to be large too, my trio are currently in a 3 x 4 C&C cage and my quad are in a 4 x 5 C&C cage, with boars and piggies in general especially big groups a second story shouldnt be counted and they should have the recommended amount of space on the ground floor alone.
Piggy politics are very complex once you start big boy groups, i would stick to pairs its much easier xxxxx

if i make the two story hutch into to singles and get another 2 boars would they be able to have play time together?

Playtime is like introductions, the same dominance dynamics will automatically come into play the minute you put piggies together. Boys do have to start right from square one every single time they are separated, so it's putting a lot of stress on them.

You can try and give them playtime next to each other, but only under supervision so you can separate as soon as a pair is starting to squabble amongst themselves because of their new neighbours.

I've got 4 pairs of boys, I personally wouldn't put any of the pairs out for playtime together, if they're out in adjacent runs all hell breaks loose sometimes, so I tend to put them out away from each other.

The only pair who don't bother are my elderly pair, but then again they still have their moments.rolleyes

I love my boys, life is never dull.

thanks for all you answers, i am so glad i use this forum as with out you lot it problably would have got another boar lol

I will stick to my 2 boys thank you very much :)

I have a trio of boars but they lived as a pair and a lone one in an adjacent cage for a good few months until we were sure they wouldnt go for each others throats! Even then I was unsure but *touch wood* we only have the odd rumbling match.
