at what amount of sows would people generally leave it at as I have 3

Yes we started with a pair, got to 5 ladies and a husboar living happily together, then adding lady number 6 went catastrophically wrong and so she needed her own cage and her own friend... its down to personality rather than numbers, if you are thinking of adding another piggy make sure you have a plan B with space and money for an extra cage and extra friend if they dont get along!

Thanks everyone I do have the space and the funds I just didn’t know whether they would all get along

Sows live in groups so in theory it is fine to have lots. However, whether they will all get along is down to the piggies. They have to be character compatible and want to be together for it to work. togrthre

You can have any amount, as long as they get on. I have had up to 13 sows in a group with a neutered boar before group dynamics turned sour in the wake of a generational hostile leadership takeover after several years but I know of quite a few sow groups (with or without a neutered 'husboar') of around 15 sows - or then really large herds with oodles of space.

Generally groups of 4-5 sows (with or without husboar) seem to be the most stable for a domestic pet setting but it very much depends on the personalities involved. Unfortunately while boars mellow with age, sows tend to get more crotchety because their hormone output never slows down.
