I've a boar and he is just getting used to his roommate, a sow called Candy.

Can I put another sow in with them or would this upset the balance seeing as they are girl and boy?

Also, they are in a sage house from P@H - is this big enough for three?

Many thanks

thats a great question! i have four sows and a boar and I'm hoping to have the boy have the snip then go in with my girls, after being bonded properly ofcourse x

I have two sows living with each of my two neutered boars, in separate trios. The boars love it.

Probably the boar will be fine with another sow, but perhaps the sow already in residence might not take too kindly to another adult sow cage mate. If the two are already a bonded "couple" then another attractive sow moving in might upset the apple cart. Sometimes adult sows can be a bit awkward ... I won't be too pleased if my OH moved another female in! :)) A baby sow might be your best bet.

As it all comes down to individual piggy personalities, you know your two and what their personalities are.

See what other folks think.

Most I remember coming across is 9 girls with one boy.

The maximum I have is 4 girls with one chap; introductions were hard as we started out with one girl and himself. Then we added another girl - this was pretty easy. Then came the two newbies, who I did not plan to put with this particular group but who went in anyway as the original plan with the other group failed. The difficulties here were adding two at once, disrupting the perfect harmony of the chilled-pigs cage with two youngsters, and disturbing the contentment of my deaf girl (who does not take kindly to change).

But it is all down to personality, really. I find there are more issues between girls than between boys and girls.

I agree with CCC4 that girls have more issues with each other, having said that I currently have six sows living quite happily with one neutered boar. Again this was not the initial plan but my other boar died and the girls were luckily quite accepting of a man about the house and have made sure he knows his place:)

Merlin has had 13 sows now 12 and they all get on ok!
Some of my shy ones seem more relaxed in a big group!
and he is hen pecked! LOL
Ron x

Oh Peppa is definitely hen pecked despite being much bigger and 18 months older than Candy - she has barbered him all over - I think that says it all ;)

I think I'll mull this one over a while longer, unless I happen across a young sow that needs a new home.
