My guinea (Florence) wont eat much dry food at all but will eat lots of veggies, like celery, parsley, tomato, cucumber etc.
Usually I feed:
-dry nuggets in the morning and occasionally some treats like alfalfa nibbles and dandelion delight.
-fresh fruit and veg such as the above in the evening. I would top up on the dry feed bowl but there is no need to because she has eaten hardly anything.
Is this normal?

How much veg does she get? Maybe it would be best to give her half her veg in the morning and half at night. It is good to give her the right ratio of calcium in her diet, there is a sticky on that. If she isn't eating much dry food maybe she doesn't like it, what kind does she have? If she is just one little pig with a big dish she might be eating but it isn't obvious.

depending on the brand and your piggie they suggest from 30-60gms per pig per day for dried food. None of mine even eat 30gms usually only about 15-20gms per pig but that is normal for them, they get two lots of veg a day and eat 2 to 3 hayracks full of hay between 2 each day!

Maybe start weighing the food so there is less waste as you'll have to throw it out the following day and then you can keep track of how much they eat! I find when I'm running low on veggies they eat a lot more dried food.

Do you feed plenty of hay? Pigs should have unlimited hay.

I give my two a plate full of mixed veggies in a morning, and random snacks throughout the day. I would guess perhaps 2-3 cups between them per day.

I also give mine 1/8 cup a day each of Cavy Cuisine.

I have noticed they eat lots more of their hay if they have limited pellets.

Hello!

We got our first two piggies last Monday.

They have the same dry food as they had where we got them from, lots of hay and we have also been trying different fresh food each day; cucumber (which they love!), strawberries, brocolli, banana, corn on the cob etc to find out what they like. Just a little worried that we might go overboard with the veggies.

Do you the recommended amount per day? I've looked in my books and they give lists of what's suitable, but doesn't say how much is recommended!

Thank you! :)

i cup of veges per day per pig is a good amount, unlimited pellets until 7-8 months of age is fine after that they can get a little on the heavy side if they eat to many x

Our pigs are spring green mad hehe. The get a whole spring green a day (inless i've been naughty and ran out!) and then they get random different veg throughout the week, this week they've also had carrot, swede, broccoli, tomato. They also are on grass about 10hrs a day and have constant hay the other 14 hours :D They eat masses of hay! Pellets are used as treats for our pigs and they get hand fed a few every day because i'm a mean mummy hehe :D
