This year, I'm trying my best to budget and sort out my finances as OH and I are saving for a house. So, I'm trying to work out my monthly outgoings but with veg, I tend to just run into Tesco and grab reduced stuff if it's there, or if not, just buy full priced stuff.
I have 6 piggies and 5 buns and a tortoise so I do buy quite a lot.
Just wondering what the average amount is that people spend, and if anyone has any tips on the best place to buy veg? I've heard Lidl is quite cheap? Thanks everyone :)

Mine get tonnes of veg actually more than the cup a day, I shop at 8pm in Tesco and pay about 5p an item for veggies usually plus I buy whatever is on offer that week they get crazy variation due to this :-) probably about £5 in total a week to feed 3 rabbits, 4 pigs and upto 10 hamsters veggies daily plus two adults.

We usually buy all fruit, veg, salad in either lidl or aldi, i find everything is always cheaper than supermarkets, even when not on offer. We have 4 pigs and a hamster, and including the fruit and veg we buy for our own consumption, we spend about £10 a week.

We spend about 20 a week on our 4, more now I am on a diet. I am sure that they would tell you they are not spoilt at all and never get enough veg, although none of them are below 1kg in weight.

i have started travelling to birminghams rag market once a week. i get all my vegs for 15 pigs, 2 bearded dragons and a family of 5 for about £12 per week. i went originally to look for fabrics for making the cosy cups i sell but noticed how cheap the veg/fruit are so even putting fuel in the car and paying £1.50 to park i get my veg far far cheaper than any supermarket and there is a great choice too

sorry it is now 14 pigs as my poor molly died last night:(

I'm so sorry about Molly's passing.
I am spending about $12-$15/week but that is for me also. In March when the danger of freezing is past, I'm planning on growing some greens to supplement what I buy. Swiss chard is pretty easy to grow, and bell peppers do very well here. Tomatoes do too and I like them but don't know how much the pigs would eat them.

My two get way more than a cup as well. I can't resist. Between £5 and £10 a week. I try to nab bargains but my work means I usually get to the reduced veg bit and its only ever tangerines damn it!

Like Toffeewoffee says we spend about £10 a week at Aldi on 7 pigs and 3 humans (although my son thinks fruit and veg are 4 letter words so he doesnt really count)

What I spend varies greatly depending in what deals I can get. I usually get a big variety in and only eat the pigs veg when I have to. I have a grocers who throw a lot out that we wouldn't buy although there is nothing wrong with it! I'm going to try and start buying this either discounted or see what I can get for free. It's worth a go :))

I haven't really counted it up, but sometimes Aldi have veg at 39p per item - it may be different items every week but if there is one near you, it is definitely worth a try.

I'm also an Aldi fan, they offers on every week so can get veg and fruit for as little as 39p, i always see whats on offer at different places as i travel around and in summer i grow my own so costs a lot less to feed them :)

I would say I spend about £5 a week on veg for my little chubsters, thats for 2 pigs.

My spending varies alot. The problem I have is i adopted two sows a year ago who only eat green foods, i've tried carrots apples even cabbage they just won't eat it! Any tips on picky eater pigs? My boys however love their carrots, apples tomatoes you name it! I spend about £10 for 4 pigs depending on if I can get to Aldi or not.

If you go to your local market, your friendly local fruit + veg merchant is usually happy to give you the cauliflower cuttings for free. Piggies love 'them. Helps if you're a regular of course.

My mum is a chef in a rehab centre, and their lunch time menu on a monday, wednesday and friday is soup and sandwiches, so there's always lots of veg peelings those days from the soup, and the tuesday and thursday is a cooked lunch accompanied by salads and things, so there's a lot of bits up for grabs then too, like cucumber ends, celery leaves etc.

I work in a shop that also sells fruit and veg, and if there's stuff left at the end of the night that is a bit past being ok to sell, I take that home.

Our local fruit and veg wholesaler trims off bits, like the outside leaves of cabbages etc. and they are happy for people to go down and help themselves to their waste, as they have to pay to have it removed, as do places like green grocers.

If you don't ask, you don't get!

This lot doesn't go far with me, four guinea pigs, two oinky pigs, a horse, and about 70 odd chickens though, so I think I'm off to Aldi!

I spend at least ten pounds a week for my 5 pigs - mainly at T
esco! I must go at the wrong time to get the reduced stuff as there never seems much choice...probably because Jaycee has been there already and nabbed it all hehehehe! ;)(
