hello everyone,

as it's pay day today i will be buying all my pet supplies for the month. i have 5 pets: 3 guinea pigs, 1 ferret and 1 cat. i have to buy things like cat litter, food, bedding etc but i don't get much change from £100 each month. i don't begrudge paying it as i love my animals but i just wondered how much other people spent each month.

:)

Quite a lot. I have 2 guinea pigs, 2 gerbils, 2 goldfish and a cat. I'd say I spend around £30 on the guinea pigs, ££25 on the cat and about £10 on the gerbils. This may not sound a lot but this does not include any toys or treats that I buy them, and vets bills which have been mounting up these past few months.

£140 thats on veg, hay and dried! I don't buy treats or houses I use cardboard boxes keeps them amused! Anything i don't spend goes in the pot for vet care. :)

I do have 14, 3 girls I took in to rehome and 2 bunnies!

i have two piggies, i spent about £60/£70 on them a month

to be honest, i have 5, i spend about £150 a month on their food, veg, bedding, washing of fleece etc. eek! my other half said i could take out a small mortgage on the amount i spend on them! and that's without buying them shampoos, conditioners and foot/skin creams! they are indeed, pampered piggies!

I honestly don't want to do the maths - I have about 60 at the moment, rescue piggies and my own, it costs several hundred pounds a month not to mention fuel etc. for collecting piggies / homechecking.... and that doesn't include vets

I have 10 guineas of my own plus 5 rescue pigs awaiting rehoming.

I think some shopping about might be needed, I get large bags of shavings for £2.50 a bag,it cleans out all my pigs and the rspca ones too.Hay is bought in bales at £2.50 and makes up the equivalant of six bags from the pet shop where they charge £5.20 per bag.Straw comes from a local farm at £1.80 per bale, again it makes up six bags which my pet shop charges £4.Both the straw and Hay are good quality and not full of bugs and the likes.

The little monsters go through several lettuces a week along with celery, carrots, spring greens etc and the dried food we buy in bulk at £14.99 for a 20kg bag,we might be travelling up the road to pick this up as its only £11.99 wholesale.

so given all the above i think something like £15-£20 a week, the veggies causing most of the cost.

I totally agree, shopping around is needed, i get my veg from the wholesaler and spend about £30 a month on it. I get 10 bales of hay delivered at £4 a bale so that's £40 and that lasts me about 3 months.

Out of this they all get good veg and hay, dried food again from a farm shop and gost me about £15 a month.#

I normally have 10 buns(some are foster rspca) and 25 guinea pigs:)):))

I really don't want to add it up - all I can say is that I spend a fortune!
Same :)) If we counted up how much we spend I don't think they'd be getting the amount spent on them much longer. Better not knowing I think :(|)

I've had my piggies 5 weeks and have spent over £200 ....... mind you that was a two storey hutch, play pen, snuggle-oo and lots of bedding .... trying everything ! but I would'nt have it any other way!

it's nice to know it's not just me that spends a lot of money! the hay i get is quite cheap. i would love to buy a bale but i live on a narrow boat so we don't really have the space! we do rent barns on a farm to store our cars but there are lots of rats about and they aren't completely water tight so i couldn't risk the hay going mouldy and being chewed!

i buy cat food in bulk when it is on special. i do buy the sacks of guinea pig food but things like the ferret bedding i can't store in bulk and i looked into the cost of buying ferret food in bulk but it doesn't work out that much cheaper and seeing as i only have 1 ferret it's not really worth it.

i'm off to pets at home after work to buy my cat litter for the month. i love looking at all the cute animals. i have a a spare cage that my boyfriend says i don't have to fill just because it's empty but i always have a sneaky look in the adoption bit of pets at home incase a little guinea pig looks at me with those eyes that say take me home! i have a feeling that i will end up with more by the end of the year! i'm not looking but something always comes along when you aren't looking! :)

I probably spend on just the gps £150 a month - since I have got the piggies in 2007, I have spent about £600 on cages maybe more and I will be spending more now soon cos I want to upgrade some of the cages and I would hate to think how much I have spent altogether! I have deffo spent more on the piggies since 2007 than I have on myself!

i started keeping a seperate account book from january this year
including insurances and vet bills
january £404.99p of which £235 was vet bills both my cats had to
have there flue jabs and my rabbit was spayed

febuary £165.05 total only £32.19 vets

march havent added up yet but i have spent £273.43 on vet bills
alone so i know it is going to be high my cat had to have a radical
dental which is not covered by insurance as she had gingervites
i have 2 cats
2 dogs
14 guinea pigs
and 1 rabbit

I spend about £50.00 per month not including vets bills. Veggies and sawdust cost the most... I was spending alot more untill I discovered how much cheaper it is to get hay by the bale, 1 bale (£3.75) lasts my lot almost 3 months!

I have:
10 Guineas
2 Chipmunks
1 Bunny

25 pigs and 3 rabbits cost about £80 per week. I used to buy hay bales but found that I threw most of the hay away as it was dirty/mouldy and didn't seem very fresh. I now buy pre-bagged hay, expensive but good quality and no risk of putting a hand onto a clump of thistles!

I've never added it up but not sure if I want to! ") I have 4 very spoilt guinea pigs and one very spoilt dog (I think if I had the unspoilt variety they'd be cheaper! :)) )

Probably spend about £150 a month between them all but thats without vets bills and extra treats!

I probably spend about £40 on the guinea pigs a month (there's 2 of them) and that's the basics so there might be a little more if they're getting a parsley bell etc.

I spend about £70 on my 2 cats (that includes food, litter and their insurance). Again, that doesn't include any little extras that I might buy them.

They are all worth every single penny and I don't begrudge any of it.

I have two guinea pigs, but I don't k now how much I spend a month. I get hay by the bale and a large pack of guinea pig dried food, so that it lasts. I get veggies for my pigs every week, but it doesn't come up to much and I try to get them veggies at good value :)
And my hamster, Honey, again I get her sawdust, bedding and food in large sizes so that they last. and I give her some of the piggies veggies

I only have one atm and i probably spent about £10 on basics.

I go through about 2 bales of medium hay from Pets at home and a bag of food.

Mum pays for veggies so i dunno how that would come to. and mum buys the dogs treats etc.

I hardly spent anything but she does get shampoos, treats and other stuff when i have some extra money.

lol well......i have 1 horse 2 rabbits,3 dogs 2cats and 102 guinea pigs so even with out treats it is expensive

er about £60 a month on my two guineas (hay, biscuits, veg/fruit, cage cleaner)

but i will also buy kitchen roll (to clean litter tray, cage, bowls etc)
treats, toys, blankets, shampoo etc

and about £20 a month on my two leapord geckos food (with extras like bulbs, tank cleaner etc)

sound like alot wen you say it out loud lol!

I feel cheap! I now have 5 piggies & proabbly spend only about £30 a month. I use our asian supermarkets for greens - saag, methi, cucumbers, fresh spinach, as they do 2-3 of each for £1 & this can last me 2 or 3 days. I also shop around for my other veggies & fruit & often buy the reduced items. :))

I have my 'pet lady' Mary-Jo. She used to own a market still until the council knocked it down to rebuild. Although they never restarted the stall she still provides for her regular customers. So I buy £3-5 dried food every 3-4 weeks & several bags of hay at 35p a bag! One bag last me at least 2 cage changes. Then I have friends & family who save up their old newspaper for me so I don't have to buy them! :(|)

The dog has a £12 bag of dried food (15kg) every 3-4 months, other dried biscuits totally no more than £2 a month (average), £3.50 on dental sticks & very little on fresh meat as again I buy it from the reduced section as a treat! She also helps herself to various soft toys which come through the front door & the best toy I ever bought her was a big, furry squirrel "Big Cyril" (so called because for months I couldn't say the word squirrel without her thinking it was time for walkies!). It cost me £1.25 from a charity shop.:))

I hope they never find out how little I spend on them, but they do get lots & lots of love free x)x) - as well as the grass & dandelions I pick from a variety of local spots & gardens (oops!)!! Plus being cheap means I can justify buying them more treats when they are on offer! ")

loads

loads,to much to add up as we have 3 dogs,7 cockatiels,2 goldfish,a lovebird, maroon bellied conure and of course 2 little guineas

well I spend about $10 on food for the month $30-40 on veg and $30 on beeding so about $80 all up.
