I spend about £40 each month, sometimes less, sometimes more, depends what treats they get!

About £5 on veggies this week which is a lot more than I have been spending all summer while there was veg in the garden. Spent £7.00 on hay today which should last 4 or 5 weeks.

£94 for 10 without vet fee's and other things like replacement fleeces etc. I've just forked out over £100 for 10 liners and almost £200 for a cage we're making and then I'll be getting some replacement hidies. It's all good as long as they are ok :)

My dog only costs £40 pm without vet fee's again. Going to treat him to a new bed and bowls lol.

£24 on veg a month
£11 a month on hay
£5.50 a month on dry food
And over two grand in vet bills since the start of the year! Whey! :mal:

Plus stuff Like toys, fleece, treats, corex etc when needed.

Hay: At least £150
Veg: about £15 per veg shop and we do at least 3 a week
Pellets: £30

I do have 14 pigs though.
WOW that's a lot on hay! I spend £7 a month on hay, 2 big bags of meadow hay at £3.40 each and each bag lasts nearly 2 weeks!
If I was using Oxbox or something though it would be more like £40 but I can't afford that, wish I could!

2 piggies £30 a week I'm at the supermarket 3 times a week getting them their vegs and
£15 every 2 weeks for big bags of meadow and timothy hay and then anything else I get them
oh forgot to add their cavy cusine pellets once every 5-weeks costing £16.00 a time

yep well and truly spoiled :own:

I shudder to think! The cost is mostly from the bedding I use. Plus veggies, hay, and pellets. And vet stuff (Sundae is on chronic antibiotics, though to be fair my vet is great at letting me buy in bulk and mix my own and it doesn't cost me that much.)

Holy hell! It's amazing the amount people spend!
Jo has just said to me that if allowed I would buy a huge amount more veggies but we have unlimited, untreated grass and wild herbs, we grow herbs specifically for the wheekers and as we have a horse, we use her hay which is beautiful soft meadow hay, so we are lucky in that respect!

I guess added up, we spend as follows

1 bale of hay costs £4, it has about 10 slices in each bale, so 40pence a slice, and one lasts us about a week.

Verdo bedding, £5.50 a bag lasting about 2 weeks so £2.75 a week

Veggies are kind of negligible as they have what we buy for ourselves, and the picked and foraged bits

Food, we mix several up together, so Science Selective, Burgess Exell Oregano and Blackcurrant and an ownbrand pellet, all costing £5-7 a bag and lasting a month easily, so £2ish a week

Then there's the fleece pads and beds I make them, using offcuts of fleece from the ones that I make to sell, and they don't have 'new' ones really, just wash and wears, so a one off of £5 or so.

Vet bills luckily aren't too bad at the moment, about £20.

All in all we spend £5.15 a week = £20.60 a month :-) x

for 8 piggies i spend:
£4.95 a week on hay (give or take, depending on how much they physically get through)
£4 a week on veggies
pellets i buy in bulk, 20kg brought in May and still going cost me £30
they're on fleece liners now so no wood chips to buy except for rabbits which is £6 for 20kg

all that is without vet bills should i need to take them

It would actually depress me to try to work it out. I know a veg run is usually £10 a time and I do that 2-3 times a week.

Then there's the vet bills... *shudders*...

I'm not going to bother working it out as it will probably freak my parents out if they new what they were spending x

A blooming fortune - min £ 90 plus £45 insurance

I only have 2 piggies and mine is around £5 per week on veggies, £30 per month approx. for hay and pellets although I use PAH pellets which I'm probably going to change so that will go up!

What really surprises me is the amounts people are spending on veggies. Our pigs don't get any special veg; they eat whatever veg we are eating. Luckily our diet is pig friendly

I have never added it up but pretty sure it's lots!

Their veggies are just part of the supermarket shopping about twice a week and then there's a bag of back-2-nature and loads of hay. Unfortunately my boys have an expensive hay habit and like to change brand/type regularly just to make it awkward. The Vet Bed is a one off purchase every 2-3 years so it's not too bad.

Vets bills are regular as we have a few long term medications but not large (touch wood!)

I shudder to think what the total is if we add it up though! Safe to say they can cost a lot more than people think...

There was a survey done by the PDSA, based on cats, dogs and rabbits but given that something like a third of people thought their cat would cost them only £30 a month or less then I am pretty sure people radically underestimate what guinea pigs and other small furries cost to look after! :( Even if mine do live better than we do ;)

£100ish on veggies.
£14 to £21 on hay as I get big farm bales (cost goes up when I supplement the hay with Timothy from another supplier)
£15 on pellets.

This is for 12 fat butt piggies :D but the bunnies cost is included.
