Ant and Dec drink loads, about half a water bottle is drunk a day.

Sooty and Sweep don't seem to drink a lot at all, next to nothing (I always run their veg under a tap and put it into the cage wet now to make sure they don't get dehydrated)

Is it normal for some piggys not to drink a lot?

They seem fine in themselves, they just don't drink very much.

If they get veg everyday then some don't feel the need to drink much because of the water content from the veg.

i find the empty bottle isnt drunk but more played with and all over the floor!

mine drink more during summer but i do have one piggy who drinks a lot :)

I have 2 sets of boars which empty their bottles everyday and they have one each. So 2 on each cage.

All my other boars - They don't drink much but of course I still change it everyday. They get the same amount of veg as my big drinkers :)

My own piggles drink loads.....the group of 6 get through more than half of a large bunny water bottle in 24 hours, and the group of 3 get through more than half of a mid-sized water bottle.

However, as we offer guinea pig boarding, we get to see the habits of loads of piggles, and they really do vary in their level of water consumption.

Some piggies drink barely anything at all, and others drink like they've never seen water in their lives!

If you want to up Sooty & Sweep's water consumption, why not try adding a scoop of probiotic to the water.....that's what we do and it always does the trick!

Glad to know that it varies, I only worried because first by nature I am a worrier anyway and secondly, I haven't had guinea pigs in a long time, so only have ant and dec to compare them to and they drink loads haha.

I would prefer for them to drink more, what probiotic would I use in the water to encourage this?

Thank you :) x

Any pet shop should sell probiotic powder. Bertie, my lone male gets through half a bottle a day. Mostly by knocking the bottle and letting it drip all over his cage and getting his chin wet. It cost me £25 to take him to a vet as I assumed he was slobbering, with bad teeth! The vet assured me that it is just a game! The girls hardly drink at all, I have caught them both drinking just once, so I think they are all different.

I'm so glad to have seen this thread. Lacey drinks a lot more then any of my other piggies. I've often wondered if it's normal!

My two boys don't drink a great deal. They get plenty of veg so I assume they get most of what they need from that.
