I was thinking about becoming a guinea pig owner again and I always had more then one piggy, could any of you tell me how much lbs. of food the average guinea pig eats in a month? Is a 5lbs bad too much or is a 2.5lbs bag too small?

Do you mean pellets?

If you are just having a couple of piggies, a 5kg bag would be too big. You should give about 40g per guinea pig per day, if I'm right.

Yes I mean pellets. I am only going to have one piggy at 1st, so is like a 2.5lbs bag too much in a month for one pig? Considering I will be feeding them hay and veggies as well?

having 2 is a better idea as all the books ai read say they need company

Yes, yes but if I were to have one how many pellets a month should I feed my piggy? I'm not sure they make a smaller bag then 2.5 lbs.

A 2Kg bag of food last 1 pig 50 days so 2 pigs would be 25 days better with a 4kg bag of food for the month, it keeps well as it is dried as long as it is out of the way of dampness. :)

I have six and by a 15kg bag and decant into storage containers where it keeps well I get a 15kg bag every 8 weeks approx.

For one or two id get the 2.5kg bag and put into a storage container and by more when you are getting low.

I, too, would recommend that you get two piggies. They are group animals and a LOT happier when they are in company, especially as you will hardly be around for one all day...

Thank you all for your help. I will probably end up getting 2 cause I dont want my little one to get lonely.

Thank you for taking our advice on board!
