How much dry food do you feed? I know that dry food isn't really that important only makes up 5% of the diet - so how much should be fed? I've read about people giving them unlimited, a handful each per day, a certain weight per day etc..what do you do?

Mine have burgess supa guinea excel and they usually (or rather, used to) have unlimited but I decided they were eating too much really. I've now decided to give them a small handful each per day and it tends to last them about 22 hours, is that about right?

Jane :)

i just fill up the bowls as and when..generally daily for my 3 girls outside, duke eats a fair bit and if his dish is empty he wheeks his little head off and acts like i never feed him when i re-fill ::) he has unlimited hay all day too, and has veggies at night

Hm, that's like what mine had then, so basically unlimited? Karen's posts about dry food always intrigue me, so hopefully she will post here. I know she doesn't feed dry food unlimited but I'm not sure how to do it.

Mine have unlimited hay of course, veggies in at dinner time, then again at night and occasionally a few more for treats too.

i know its meant ot be 5% of their daily intake.. but my piggies would think i was starving them! lol they love their dry food, none of them are over weight all have unlimited hay yet create a fuss when they dry food dish is empty.. so i just make sure its always full.. they poop in it when its empty the dirty lil things! :D

mine have unlimited but they dont eat that much of it, so aslong as they arent always eating it all, I'm happy giving them unlimited :)

unlimited here too :) generally they will eat veggies first hay/grass next then if still hungry have a little snack of excel :)

At college I'm sure we give them 30g of dry pellets for a single piggy ? not too certain on that though but we do have to measure it out ::)

Mine get a cupful of food in morning then afternoon they get veggies and at night i remove old hay and replace with new for the night O0

I always make sure mine have dry food.
Some days they empty the bowl and other days they have some left.
They have unlimited hay and plenty veg too.

I think the packs advise 30g per pig per day.

1 handful per pig in the morn and 1 handful of a night seems to do my pigs. Sometimes they'll eat it all other times they dont bother. :)

Mine have two bowls in their cage - one with nuggets and the other with museli type food. I just fill the bowls up in the morning when I clean them out and throw anything that is left the next day. I wouldn't say the bowls are full to brimming, but about 2/3 full each. Never much to throw out. Same as the hay and the veg really - they eat everything!

My three only get a small handful each at night, lasts them about three hours ::)

Lisa mine dont eat much either, i wouldnt worry aslong as they are getting plenty of hay and veg :)

I just keep their bowl topped up -I dont think it matters that much and mine dont really eat that much anyway

Fugly has unlimited and never seems to each much of it, he is a big hay fan

I've cut mine down recently, as they were getting a bit porky and gassy. They tend to get approx 2 dessertspoons each per day (one in the morning, one in the evening), which is still quite a lot, but it's a lot less than unlimited (they'd eat much more if they could).

Thanks guys. Currently mine are still unlimited I guess because they're not eating it all lol.

but if they get a bit hungry they will still have hay so wont actually be hungry? ;)

Mine have unlimited supa guinea excel. they ten to eat a bowl full every 24 hrs and when its empty they fill the bowl with poops for some bizarre reason! :)

Mine do that-I think they're complaining about the lack of food :)

I see what you're saying but I like mine to have variety - I'd hate to just have the choice of bread, bread or bread ! And they're fussy little critters too!

Mine get only a small amount a day each and if it runs out it runs out. Pellets are 3rd in the line of importance after hay and vegetables. Mine get fed pellets in the evening, hay is heaped and unlimited and veggies morning and evening.

Mine have a long thing and it takes them a few days to eat all the nuggets in there. I tend to fill there hay rack every morning half with grass and half with hay always top the hay up when my son is in from school as well as it's his job :P Pippin wheeks for her grass lol
They have fresh veggies and night and herbs at lunch time x
