Hi

Is it right that a guinea-pig should have 1 cup of veg per day or around 50g? I give mine around 4-5 different veg per day (and this changes daily too).

Does this list sound the right quantity per piggie per day? 1 slice of pepper, 2 slices of cucumber, 1 large leaf of lettuce, 1 cherry tomato.

I make sure they have at least 1 vitamin C source every day, such as pepper, carrot or chiory. The reason i ask this question is that one of my piggies is quite fat, and I'm wondering if I'm over feeding, or under feeding or feeding enough vitamin C. He's about 1,200g and has a large round belly. He's been to the vet and the vet said he was just fat. :( They are both in good condition (in terms of coat and skin) and the other piggie is around 1,000g but doesn't have the round belly.

They also get a handful of pellets per day between the two of them, unlimited meadow hay and timothy hay and a pinch of dried herbs daily.

Guinea pigs come in all shapes and sizes. Your guinea pig weighs the same as one as mine. Do you feed pellets? They are healthier then a mix. It sounds like you feed the right amount of vegetables. I feed mine twice a day.

I feed mine so much fresh food like they want and they aren´t fat.

And the veggies do you give, are low in energy.

I don´t know your pellets, but if owners in germany have fat pigs, they stop to give dried food like that and give them more space and spread the fresh food about the whole space so that they search for they food.

If you give them tomatoes every day may give them a sore mouth as it is acidic.Mine only get tomato now and then.Carrot isn't very rich in vitamin c but high in sugar.Broccoli has lots of vitamin c as does parsley and Bell peppers. There it's a list somewhere on here of veggies suitable for them and how often.Mine have a cup of veggies each per day and none of them are fat but they are in fifteen square feet (the quartet) and 10 square feet (the duo).

Thanks for putting this link on.Really must learn how to do it
