How much hay does a six week old guinea pig eat in a day? It seems that my baby piggie isn't eating much hay. He may be eating it and then running through the hay and making it look like there is still a lot of hay, but I want to know just to be safe. He is pooping what I think is normal for a baby guinea pig, and he is drinking fine. He pooped a massive load in one spot that wasn't in his hut and then peed all over it. Not at one time, he just doesn't like to do his business in his hut for some reason. Well I'm getting off topic so I should just stop typing.

Great that you have a clean piggy who doesn't like to spoil his bed! :))

How much veg are you feeding? About 1cupful/50g of mixed veg is our recommended daily amount. At that young age, you feed unlimited pellets (preferably to muesli). Please rather give little portions instead of topping up; some piggy pee i their bowl.

However, more important is that your piggy is growing at a fairly steady rate for the first 4-9 months. Please weigh him weekly. Company (or lack of) can also influence eating habits.

Nice to know about little portions. I just got the little piggie, Peanut, two days ago. Peanut loves to run through his kibble bowl. :p

It often takes some time for a new piggy to settle in and down. Most shop and breeder's piggies have never seen veg and some not even hay!

Drinking with youngsters can also be haphazard. Just give a little bit more cucumber or chopped celery of they don't drink.

Ideally you include at least one high vitamin C veg or herb in his daily feed, like a slice of (sweet) pepper of any color, a bit of broccoli (all parts) or a sprig of fresh parsley dill or cilantro/coriander. Pointed cabbages, savoy, spring greens or green cabbage when fed in small amounts as part of a mix are also a good source of vitamin C.
Stay off spinach, kale and the Asian cabbages - they are all very high in calcium and should only be fed occasionally. Fruit and tomato should only be fed twice weekly; too much can cause lip and mouth sores.
Always introduce only one new variety of veg and fruit. It can be rather hit and miss if he's never had veg before, but the more you get him to while young, the less picky he will be later on!
