Hi guys! This will be my first month with two piggies and I am about to buy monthly hay (they have hay now just asking for the next month). I wonder what’s the minimum hay amount per month for two pigs? I’m thinking about getting the hay in bulk so that it’ll be cheaper so I need a minimum for calculation. Thank you!

Our 8kg box lasts us about 8 weeks, so if day we get through about 4kg a month, but it will vary on the pigs, for example we change supplier recently and they didn’t really like it so we were wasting a lot! We are back on our usual now and there is much less waste!

I would also say about 4kg a month. We are going to start buying by the bale to save money but obviously the first bale is a risk because they might not like it!

Depends on the size of the hay area really.

We have a 2x2 grid hay area, topped up 3-4x a day and changed fully every other day.

Go through approx 20kg meadow and 5kg timothy a month for two piggies.

What is the right amount for one person isn’t right for another so it’s more a case of trial and error in finding the amount that works for you.
I have six animals but each pair gets through roughly 4kg a week

I get through about 15kg every 5 weeks, a mix of coarse cut hay and meadow hay.
Sometimes I need to get extra.
I’m expecting to use more as the temperature drops and I will pile more in to help keep them warm.
I have 2 piggies in a very large cage.

So it seems like it's going to be a matter of trial and error, figuring out how much you'll use! At least you have a range of figures here, although it's quite a wide range

I tend to buy 10kg every four weeks. Sometimes I don't need that much, sometimes I need more, so it evens out.
