How much is a Simon Maddock dental cost these days?

Title says it all really!

I seem have found myself with another dental piggie, being 100% honest I’m trying to weigh up what’s best for piggie, my bank balance, my mental health (seriously - previously did treks up to see Kim every 10 days from Kent with another piggie I had and it just took a lot out of me) and time - took a lot of regular shuffling things around for me to get up there last time.

Also, is it still Mon-Fri appointments with him?

Thank you, and sorry if any of this sounds harsh, it’s really not meant to! I know he is always recommended, but having been through it all before and knowing how I felt I’m just a bit anxious about launching into it all again.

Laura

Edit: aaarrgggh auto correct! Simon Maddock obviously! Not Maddox!

I know dental consults are £48 plus the general consultation fee on your first visit, which I bang remember how much it was! I think my first visit was £60-something, then £48 per visit after. I think they are away at the moment but are back in another week. Hope this helps!

Yes, still Monday to Friday but they’ve moved now. They’ll give you the new address when you phone - still in Northampton but the other side (for me coming from Nottingham!). I know your dilemma too, unfortunately my boar was pts at our last consult when something monstrous was going off in his jaw and he would have needed jaw surgery to try and correct it - which we all agreed would be a step too far, so Kim put him to sleep.💔

I don't think anyone is going to be harsh with you when you are clearly trying to work out what is best for your piggy in the circumstances. I would struggle mentally and emotionally with regular trips from Leicester and it's only an hour away for me so I can see where you are coming from. Whether it's worth scoping out other local vets and seeing if they are willing to talk to Simon about techniques etc. Another member had success with their vet doing this and who is now offering conscious dentals

We may be able to help with some temporary boarding, here at TEAS, if your piggy needs to see Simon regularly to start with.

Simon and Kim are back from their holiday on Tuesday 23rd April. I know exactly how you must be feeling, we travel from Cornwall and it’s quite a journey and very stressful, but will keep doing it for as long as necessary x

Yes, there’s a vet in Brixham Devon called Jess who has now had instruction from Simon and can do conscious dentals, probably not much help to anyone in Kent though x

Yes I was more thinking that there might be local vets to the OP who might be willing to take the same action Jess took in order to be able to offer the service themselves.

You need a vet who can do them well whilst under GA, who is willing to have a go at doing them conscious. Simon has perfected his skill over more than 10 years, so it isn't just a case of finding a vet who is willing to have a go. Jess was doing a good job using anaesthetic, so can use the same skills, but with the guinea pig awake.

I am greatly aware of this, I was merely making suggestions to help the OP look at all the options available

I wasn't suggesting you weren't aware. However, not everyone knows that. I constantly see posts on social media where people suggest that dental work is just the same as cutting guinea pig nails. Dental work is a skill and the reason that Simon gets the results he does, is because he has perfected that skill over many years. I just wanted to make the point, as these posts can be read by anyone and vets aren't always honest about their experience with dental work. I often see the results of botched jobs, where people have spent many hundreds of pounds and have ended up with more problems than they started with.

Thank you everyone who replied! And thank you for the offer of the possibly of a place if needed @furryfriends (TEAS) . Inkling (current dental piggy) is actually at ours under foster care, so would have to check with the rescue he’s from first, but thanks ever so much.
The issue I have with my own vet, is that you can’t guarantee who’s doing the dental. The person you see might not actually be the person who carries out the work.
He was doing better and had started to try and eat nuggets and hay by himself, but seems to have taken a bit of turn out of nowhere. I did take him back to my usual vet yesterday who feels that his teeth are now fine (he had a dental on 2nd, and on 13th), and that any issues are not his teeth. I will keep syringe feeding him and make an appointment to see Simon just to get a second opinion and go from there. With our last dental piggy I kind of got to the point where I knew I was fighting a losing battle, but I did give him every chance he could have had. To be fair, with our last piggy Kim did say quite early on that she felt that he could be one of few piggies she felt couldn’t be helped and that the kindest thing could be to PTS, and she was right - he never really did improve despite all of our efforts and my usual vet saying they thought they could sort him out.
I’ll give them a call on Tuesday.
Thanks everyone x

I’m really sorry :(

It’s horrible when you do the best you can and still don’t get them outcome you hope for. Kim always felt that with our last dental piggy something was brewing in his jaw because he just never improved despite all of those dentals.

I do hope you’re ok <3
