How much is too many piggies?

Oh dear!

My very good friend's husband developed paranoid psychosis and OCD in his forties. His mental health was never a challenge prior. My friend, his wife, found on their computer he had joined random car owner, gardening and travelling forums online claiming he owned classic cars, was landscaping manor house gardens and jetsetting around the world in private planes. He had been telling family and friends about his new friends and his new hobbies. He couldn't distinguish fantasy from reality anymore. I do hope if the OP has mental health issues he /she can access the support needed.
 
I have been reading these replies and some of them don’t seem very nice. Please be kind to everyone - you never know what someone could be going through. Even if a person says something suspicious or not particularly kind, making fun of their mistakes is wrong and makes me upset to see. Sometimes people are struggling, but that doesn’t mean that they are bad individuals or should be picked on - no one deserves that. :(
 
@Mo & Stubbins & Vani I hear what you say But a forum like this requires honesty and complete cooperation in order to continue to exist. The forum is run by entirely volunteers who give their time and their experience freely. We do this in the interests of guinea pig welfare.

Our reputation as a reliable source of trusted information on guinea pig husbandry and welfare relies upon us ensuring that content is true and correct. It is one of our specific terms and conditions that there should be no attempt to deceive other members.

Sadly our successful public presence does attract spammers, trolls, fantasists and quite frankly some people with less than pure motives. We have to weed out the poorly informed / ill advised from the other categories of posters and act accordingly. We have a duty to protect our members.

This member joined, proclaimed themself an expert and posted prolifically in a short space of time with photos they claimed were of their own piggies but which were lifted from the internet (which in itself could cause issues for the forum). They claimed to have a set up and groupings that were quite frankly impossible. If left unchallenged, there is a risk that a member of the public searching could find incorrect content indicating that 6 boars could live in a group.

Please don’t forget that whatever this member’s circumstances they chose to create an account, chose to engage with the forum and wasted other members’ (and staff’s) time and energy.
 
I understand, but it is never okay to make fun of anyone, especially when they are unable to defend themselves. While many people can move on from reading unkind comments, others can’t. Life can be incredibly tough, and we need to look out for one another.

I think we were all quite invested emotionally in wanting what's best for her piggies, at the beginning I was picturing a barn full of piggies in tiny cages. Compulsive lying is a real problem and I hope she gets the help she needs but it's not nice to be lied to either and sarcasm and humor is the British way to deal with that. We all tried to do what was best for her and any potential piggies involved but entertaining her fantasies would not have helped anyone.
 
I'm kind of sad. I really hoped she was telling the truth :( I wanted to see the photos of the piggies.
