Hey all. So, I got my guinea pigs about a month ago and within a week or 2 I had a vet appointment set for my pigs. Mainly because the place I adopted them from didn't seem very guinea pig knowledgeable. So, I took them to the vet and I told him that I was just looking at an overall checkup but that they itch quite a bit and didn't know if that was normal. He asked me if I had, had guinea pigs before and i said no and he explained to me in through explanation of all illness and diseases they can get and the appropriate diet. During that time he took an ear sample from both pigs in both their ears and he saw it was grey (I assumed from dirt because the place I adopted them from was outside on the dirt
) he had it tested. Kiersteins ear sample came back okay and Pipers came back with a mite egg. My doctor told me it was a dead egg but gave me a cat multi advantage medicine applied to the back of the neck once a week for 4 weeks and once a month for upkeep to assure they don't ever have a problem. I've been noticing that they are itching more but I am not sure if that's just because I'm paranoid or what. They are eating fine, it doesn't seem to hurt when they scratch, drinking plenty and still very active. Any advice?
