Nuggets came home on Friday night after his operation to remove a large lump.He has now wised up to me putting metacam on a piece of cucumber or on any other veg and wont touch it - he came home with no pain relief, but I have 2 others on septrin and metacam at the moment so vet had already given me a large bottle - I managed to syringe most of 0.2 ml a couple of hours ago,but he is still crying when doing his soft edible poos -anyone in rescues know what I would be able to dose him and how often, until he sees his vet tomorrow? The poor man is on 1.0 ml baytril daily and I have the biggest fight trying to get him to take it - he struggles so much I cant even towel wrap him - He has a big scar on his side and this makes it worse and I am worried I am hurting him and worried he might do himself some damage with regards to his stitches. _ his lump has gone off to be examined, but the lump that was removed was firmly attatched to the abdomimal wall and has its own blood supply, the vet says he manages to get out everything that he could see,but that it looked a bit nasty. He is eating o.k - nuggets hay and dandelions.

can't believe he was sent home without any pain relief after an op :( he will have been given pain relief after i assume via injection usually which would last 24 hours. i don't want to say a dose because our vets prescribe doses higher than alot of other vets seem to (although the same as some other exotics vets) but i have given alot more than that to a piggy that weighs less so it should be safe. :)

Thanks for the advice - forgot to say he was operated on on Wednesday morning - I wanted him to stay in until Friday so they could syringe feed him and make sure he was pooing and peeing etc before I took him home - he is quite bruised around the stitching,so I thought he would need something.

I'd read that you can give them 0.4 ml but didn't know if it was cat's or dog's Metacam. Cat's Metacam is only half the strength of dog's Metacam so I stick to 0.2 ml but there's certain to be someone out there who knows exact amount. Hope Nuggets gets better soon, it's always worrying when one of your little one's is poorly, I've just gone through it with Minky who had an op 17 days ago but is well on the way to full recovery now.

It goes on weight my 1200g piggy is on 0.4ml once a day of the dog stuff, guinea lynx has some info on it from what i remember it all goes on body weight :)

As others have said, its dependent on weight. Big Dave is about 1.1kg and on 0.4ml once a day.

Best thing to do is phone and discuss with your vet, they can calculate an appropriate dose for you
