Hi guys, just want to make sure I'm doing this right, I'm putting this much probiotic (in picture) on each piece of food for each Guinea pig, is this too much or too little I don't want to do it wrong

I’m put it in the water bottles as spuds been on off antibiotics for last few months vets advise was to double up on probotic in water bottle for all the pigs she’s prone to upper respiratory infections so I use a scoop I. Each water bottle the pigs love it and I know each of the gets enough xx

Thank you, i want to do it on food if possible though because mine are so picky and I fear that they'd taste the difference in the water and stop drinking :(

Mine are 2 it’s quiet fruity tasting I have to give spud some from a suringe hour after her meds so I’ve tasted it it’s just a very sweet tasting taste bit like bell pepper or cucumber that type of taste and the pigs love when it’s in fresh done water xx

Can I ask why you are using probiotics? Are your piggies on antibiotics? I don't use probiotics unless mine are on antibiotics cos a good diet (80-90% hay, veggies and 1 tablespoon per piggy per day of pellets) should give them all the vitamins and minerals they need. When they are on antibiotics I disolve a pinch of probiotics in a bit of water and syringe it in an hour or so after the antibiotics.

Yes mine have lots Vega kale black green cucumber spinach they have romaine lettuce bell peppers they have constant hay lots of food Musli pellets the each grass daily i pick I pick safe weeds and nettles and dry them out for the i also buy herb selections and put in daily they eat parsley carrot tops pak Choi snap beans and corn on the cob so they get loads of vitamins spud is a sickly pig she’s had 2 upper respiratory s in 4 months each take 7 weeks to get rid of both times shes given her sister lower infections so 2 stop the other girls picking anything up our vet to,d us to double up on her probiotic which we do yes she’s been on antibiotics this time 2 months and counting she had phomnia at Christmas the probiotics in the water the other pigs had saved them from getting it x

I syringe it to her a hour after antibiotics as she’s a phmonia 2 time once when we first got her and once at Xmas the vet wants to make sure the 4 o& them are covered we do veg different one 3 times a day when they get up and come downstairs lunch time and before they go upstairs with us to bed xx

Night bed next to me very loved pigs x

Yes they are on baytril and doxycycline and have wet poops so I think they need it for their gut. Thank you

It's the petark Pro c powder. I didn't taste it now but the main ingredient appears to be dextrose which I think is a form of sugar so it probably would be sweet now that I'm thinking about it

If they are on Baytril they need the probiotics to balance the gut. That is the Probiotic I use. All my piggies love it.

Thanks, so mixing a pinch in a full 1ml syringe is better thank sprinkling a pinch on a piece of food and feeding it to them?

I think so yes cos then you know that they have had it all and it hasn't fallen of the piece of food. I add a pinch to around 5-10ml of water and syringe it in. My piggies have always been receptive to Pro C.

I see. I hand feed it to them and make sure that they eat the powdered bit first and they always make a funny face haha. But if syringing is better I can try. Its just 8 guinea pigs need it and it'll take a long time to syringe 5-10ml each when I already syringe them doxycycline twice a day and baytril once a day, each. Its very tiring I really hope they do get better this time

Sending them lots of healing vibes x

yes try syringing it them in some water

Alright, I'll try this and i think I do have another water bottle so I could do one with probiotic and one without just incase they don't like it. Would that be good?

The problem with adding it to water bottles is you won't know how much each Piggy has had.

I wouldn’t add to water just give a little in during they normally take it very easy. It if works sprinkling on food then carry on with that if it easier

Thanks guys I'll keep trying and hopefully their tummys will settle and they get better soon 🤞

It’s definitely easier to put in water and syringe it, after a while I’ve found my piggies quite enjoy the taste and don’t mind having it :) Better than the poo soup we were talking about anyway! :)) Hope they’re doing ok with the antibiotics?

I'm not sure if they're better yet but they aren't worse and they are all still eating. The only problem I'd have with syringing the water aswell is that there's 8 guinea pigs that need it and if I have to give 5-10ml each in a 1ml syringe it's going to take a very long time :(

Sorry they’re all having meds now, must be a nightmare with 8 piggles! Great they’re all still eating. If you find that some are eating it off veg then maybe it’s best as @sport_billy says to carry on giving it on food as you were to the pigs that eat it with no trouble, then syringe to the pigs that aren’t keen?

I just put a pinch on some wet parsley or Corriander and they devour it 😂

That’s good then, it’s just making sure everyone gets some really.
My Jess hasn’t had Baytril since last Saturday but suddenly got a dodgy tum Friday, so I’ve been cleaning cow-pats and sloppy poo feet for the last couple of days! So it’s just to avoid that really, sure with 8 pigs (and not 3 like me) it’d be even more of a messy nightmare than syringing! (She’s on no veg and poo soup again poor lady!)
