I've noticed that recently both of my pigs are having a good scratch more often than before. They are both long haired and a few months old, and whenever I've held them I haven't seen any obvious signs of bugs. How often do you see your guinea pigs scratching?

Are yours indoors in the UK and you haven't noticed any hair loss, dandruff or scabs?

With the current cold spell in the UK, radiators have been on full. this can dry out the air quite noticeably. In this case, please see whether some evaporating water can ease symptoms. If it does, consider getting a humidifier for the longer term.

A guide to guinea pig skin parasites and ringworm is in this guide there (last chapter). What to check and look out for in new guinea pigs (vet checks, sexing, parasites&illness)
