Firstly I'll apologise if there is already a thread on this, I did a search but couldn't find one.

Obviously I know that how much a pig weighs can vary alot but wondered whether anyone had any guide figures. I've tried looking on the internet but the amounts are vastly different so it wasn't much help.

I was hoping someone would be really nice and just compile a list for me :red

So for example

Boars 1-3 months xgrams 4-6 months xgrams etc ( not sure if these brackets are any good or whether the weights should be done monthly up until they are a certain age? ) and then the same for sows.

Thanks :)

Guinea pigs can differ quite a lot in size and weight, so there is no ideal chart.

Adult guinea pigs can weigh anything from 800g (and less in some cases) to a whopping 1800g with some big breeds and still be healthy. Between 900-1400g seems to be average for an adult guinea pig. Most piggy people judge their piggy less by weight than by condition.

Weighing is more done to monitor health than to fit a guinea pig into certain weight chart. What you are mainly looking out for is sudden loss of more than 50g/2 oz of weight (anything over 2oz in one week needs to be seen by a vet) or sudden big weight gain (pregnancy, heart problems or recovery from illness/bad conditions). Changes of plus/minus 1-2 oz/30-50g a week are not worrying and can be simply due to a full bladd/ful tummy.

Thanks wiebke.

We weigh our piggies weekly, or daily if ones poorly and I have a good idea of what weight each piggie should be if that makes sense? Some of our girls are alot bigger then the others but I don't see them as being fat, they're just naturally bigger.

The main worry is Athena who has the tumor, she only weighs 870g which is why I was asking about this incase there was a "minimum" she should be. Although to be honest we're not sure if or how we can get her to put on weight as she eats loads but can't seem to get any weight on her.

I have noticed a lot of people talking about piggy weights, I have never weighed mine but I am thinging maybe I should start. Do you set up a weight chart for each pig?

I must admit that I am lazy and don't have a weight chart; I still know roughly each piggy's weight. With adult piggies, I just weigh about every two weeks to see wether their weight is stable within plus/minus 50g.

However, I do write down the weights and and weigh daily as soon I notice a change in "heft" when I cuddle or handle a piggy or when it is not well.
