We're on our hols next week and paying a Saturday girl at my partners' Vet practice to clean out the pigs. She's going to come round every day, muck them out and stick them in the run for a bit.

I'm not sure how much is an appropriate amount to pay her? V.grateful for her doing it and she's reliable so want to make it worth her while...

I pay about £15 a day for my pets to be looked after when I go away.

But that's for 4 pigs and a cat so a bit more work probably (depending on how many pigs you have obviously...) + this is from a professional pet sitting company and they are fully insured etc so are going to always cost a bit more.

I guess if you work out how long she will stay for each visit and then apply an hourly rate of £6-£7 maybe? You also need to work out how long it will take her to get to yours, if she needs to travel then take that into account to make it worthwhile for her.

Hope this helps.

a lady down the road from me she charges £5.50 per week per pig.

I have 2 pigs so thats £11 per week for 2 pigs :))

monmouth area ,, local fishing on the wye or severn,,, i will sleep next to the hutch and talk to them ,feed and clean the hutch for free in rtn for somewhere to sleep after ive been fishing lol

I don't konw about Monmouth but there are a few professional pet sitting companies out there. Here in Manchester, one place charges £8 to come for 20 minutes to feed, clean and play with guinea pigs. I haven't used them yet but I like the fact that there are separate rates/offers for all the different pets and that guinea pigs have their own rate. You can proably find something similar.

£20/day for four piggies and a cat seems pretty good too if it's from a professional company and I'd say that looks to be the norm in terms of them. Obviously if you know someone who you trust who'll do it cheaper then that's great :)

My youngest brother is my pig sitter. The pigs trust him and love him to bits. I don't pay him for it. I guess thats the bonus when you have a young brother (17) who likes to share lettuce and hay with the pigs haha... Yes he does eat the timothy hay

Your brother eats Timothy hay?/

I would also suggest charging 15pounds per hour. This is a resonable pricing seeing as guinea pigs need so much close attention. You can compare prices on websites such as tendea.

We have friend's with piggies and coordinate holidays so we look after theirs when they are away and they look after ours when we're away. It works well for us.

I suppose it's a bit like babysitting though and I get £7 a night when I do that so that might be an amount to consider.

what name of this company please :)

I paid £11 per visit (one per day) to a professional pet sitting company recently - and that was just for feeding, watering, hay top up and a cuddle. No cleaning out! It worked out fairly expensive over a week, but if you consider what the company actually makes out of that it is a very small return once they've paid wages and fuel costs etc. Lovely people though!
I think what you decide to offer/pay has to depend on travel distance, what tasks you will be asking them to do, their age etc etc.
