hi,
need to know how much it costs to spay a rabbit?
a lady i know at school has 2 rabbits a year old now, and they haven't been spay, so the dominant one has sexual aggression, and is trying to mate with the other, and is biting and drawing blood.i told her she needs to temporarily seperate them, and explained why they are behaving that way,she says she can't divide the hutch, (i'd go and buy another but then that's me) why don't people go on the internet and do their homework? i search for hours till i find the info i need, well anyway could anyone tell me a rough idea of how much a rabbit spay is so i can tell her.

My doe cost me £70 but I live near Heathrow Airport (Greater London) so it's more expensive here. Is she sure she has two does and not bucks? ?

shes had them a year and no litters, I have just read that neutering them won't stop this behavior is that true do you know?
I'm in the south too so the cost will be similar here thanks

My sterilized male, and female (not sterilised) show sexual behavior all the time ::) no agression though :)

My female always humps the male so she can take over the water bottle ;D

Not sure how much it cost to spay a rabbit it can vary greatly between vet practices. I know at our vets its £46 for a cat and the prices for a guinea was £30 so inbetween at a guess. I do not think though that everyone has acess to the internet. I know loads of people that do not have the wonderful internet :)

You will have to find out the sexes of the rabbits. And sometimes no neutering will not stop this behave but on many occasions it will. If this lady doesn't seperate them soon they could do some serious injury to each other, or one to the other. :( :)

Do you mean spay (neuter female) or castrate (neuter male)? ?

she does have the internet though, maybe it hasn't crossed her mind.
I will let her know tomorrow, that neutering may or may not help, i get the impression she doesn't want to spend out though, she told me there was blood on her patio, and the bunny has scabs under it's fur.

I presume these are bucks by the sounds of it and that this fighting has been going on for quite a while. Tell her to either separate them, get them neutered and see if they get along or give them to a rescue. Also tell her to get them to a vets so the injuries they have already got can be treated. Rabbits can inflict injuries that you can't even imagine on each other. This womans neglect is totally unacceptable. :tickedoff:

yes, makes me mad too, she was talking about rehoming the dominant one, will find out tomorrow after i've spoken to her what she is going to do. she did ask if i wanted the rabbit, but i don't have room for it.
I did advise her to phone the rspca for advice, and said they will probably tell you to neuter them, and they may even help with the costs. i really tried to get her to divide the hutch temporarily, says she can't do that. does frustrate me. people shouldn't be allowed pets so easily, we are on a different level to the majority. i do everything to make sure my pets have the best lives possible, people think i'm nuts, there is a hutch for sale £8 in our local paper might mention that too as a tempory measure.

So she is going to rehome the dominant one, what is she going to do with the submissive one? As this one will have the injuries and I doubt she is going to get medical care. Call the RSPCA this is cruelty and neglect. :tickedoff:

don't worry i will definatly make sure she does the right thing.
i reckon shes only just noticed it happening, i see her everyday and she has only just mentioned it today.will give her the low down tomorrow, will tell her i emailed a rabbit expert for all the advice.
think i'll write it all down in a minute.

oh and don't forget i told her to ring the rspca so they should of given her all the advice she needed.people just haven't got a bloody clue have they. Ignorance

Not at all. If she does nothing about the rabbits please call the RSPCA. :-\

i wrote down everything i wanted to tell her, had a chat with her this morning, gave her the paper with the info, so she won't forget anything I've said.
she is ringing the rspca today, for advice , i advised her about taking the rabbit to the vets.
will update you later

Thank you and do keep me/ us updated.

:o £30 for either a spay or a neuter. :o That's really good, where abouts do you live.

ok, seen her after school, she rang the rspca, and was a bit frustrated with them because they told her to ring the vet, without giving her any advise, (she did seem genuine about this)
She got intouch with a friend of hers because she remembered she was going to get a rabbit last time she saw her, she has got the hutch and luckily hasn't got a rabbit yet, so she is going to have one of the rabbits tomorrow.i told her she would have to give this rabbit extra attention now as she will be alone.poor baby

That's O.K. and yes she will have to give him/her extra attention or get another companion. She could get another companion from a rescue, which will help bond the rabbits. Tell her she has to take both of the rabbits down the vets first as there will be injuries that need to be attended to. O0

yep have already advised her of that, i think she will. i offered her to borrow my pet carriers

she probably thinks i'm a pain in the butt, having had rabbits before, when she bought them last year I probably went on for hours to her, on the do's and don'ts, and i remember warning her about this problem then, i just want people to be as caring and attentive to their pets as i am, but there really are not many people like it out there. wish everyone was like us.
i think when my youngest daughter is old enough to get herself to and from school, i would like to work at a rehoming centre, it's my destiny.
you should see me in the pet shops, i have to bite my lip, want to lecture everyone buying pets.

;D Don't we all, you should defiantly try and get a job in a rehoming centre. I think you would be brilliant working in one. O0

I'm in the West Midlands and always having spays or neuters done for my foster bunnies :)
