Hi All,

I have been reading up a lot on Guinea Pigs as we have just got two boys yesterday.

I was thinking of giving them veg two times a day, but not sure on how much we should give them

I was trying to find a picture of what you would normally give them in the course of one day to get an idea?

Also, I was wanting to follow some sort of weekly "menu" to make sure I am not over feeding them certain things and so it is well balanced, has anybody set up anything like this?

Sorry if I have missed this on the forum already somewhere but want to make sure we look after our little piggies best we can,

Thanks!

Kerrie has given you a good link above :)
My girls get:
Ic diet:
This is a diet especially designed to prevent bladder sludge and cystitis. Twice a day per pig:
1 slice cucumber
1 sprig coriander
1 slice spring greens
2 pieces celery
1 green bean
1 piece green pepper

Each pig needs a cup of veggies a day. Since I have two boars I feed a cup that they share in the morning and a cup at night.

For what veggies to give I use the chart on this page: What Can Guinea Pigs Eat? – The Guinea Pig Safe Food List (it even tells you how frequently to give it to them)

My staples are lettuce and yellow or green peppers, which they eat nearly every day. The rest I mix and match the best I can. I love giving my piggies a very diverse diet when it comes to their veggies!

I'm the opposite. Buying different veg was taking over my life - and them Max got a bladder stone and the vet told me it was dietary.

I use the list Chief Guinea pig has mentioned as the core of their diet. I give a few things from the list Kerrie74 has mentioned - but only occasionally as treats.

I love to give mine some grass in the summer - either as grass time ( self service !) or hand picked on rainy days (room service!)

buying veg stressed me out quite a bit as a new piggy owner.. mine have veggies at breakfast and dinner.. they have pepper, green beans and cucumber every day.. then i swop dill, coriander and parsley about each day.. and i also swop spring greens, red cabbage and gem lettuce about so its a bit varied.. they have only ever had a grape, tiny bit of tomato and melon as a treat over the past few months... recently gave them some sweetcorn which went down ok..

Thanks for all the help everyone, piggies seem to be settling in great, I am wanting to change their food we got given when we got them, Its the Gerty muesli, thinking of swapping it slowly with Harringtons pellets as I can get them locally.

Honestly, I give mine whatever they are able to eat and isn't too high in calcium, I tried the lc one but not all of mine liked it so yeah, decided to just do what I was doing before.
