Hiya,

How much water should pigies drink ? I have two and as of yet they haven't really drank anything. Got them on Sunday and the bottle hasn't moved very much at all in 3 days. They have been eating their greens but is this enough ? It's 20years since I kept my last piggies, showing my age here I know but I don't want them getting ill, should I put a bowl out just in case ? am I being an over protective mummy ? :^-

I found that when I got my last 3 baby piggies that they didn't seem to be drinking much water and I was a bit worried about them but they were fine. They were probably getting enough water through their veggies. As long as they have fresh water always available to them then I wouldn't worry about how much they drink. I find some days that they drink more than others.

Sometimes the little ball gets stuck in the mouthpiece so check the angle of the bottle and that the water is getting through.

the bottle doesnt really show easily how much they drink because its not large masses. You dont really see them drink in the day - its fine as they drink mostly at night and early morning when we are all tucked up in bed!

Tomz didn't drink for AGES when i got him (or not enough for me to really notice) but now he drinks by the gallons. i think its probably got something to do with the confidence coming right up to the bars of the cage/hutch.....

Or like you said - The water from the veggies.

If they are getting lots of moisture from their vegs or fruits, then they won't drink much water.

However, just check that the spout of the water bottle is functioning properly by tapping the spout with your finger and seeing if any water comes out. Change the water daily though, as piggies love fresh water and that will eliminate the chance of the spout being wedged closed before you realise.

Thanks for all your advice, think they must be getting enough water from their vegies and just to let me know one of them did a wee on the blanket when I was holding him today! Haha :)) I have cheeked the water bottle and it seam ok as it drips when I tap it. Now just need to keep an eye on how much they eat as that too doesn't go down but they are eating their hay as if is going out of fashion !
Cheersxx>>>

mine didnt at first nor was they eating there dried food so i put vitamin C drops in and they drunk more, now I'm trying to add less of the Vit C drops because they dont need more now there eating there dried food and the less they have in the less the drink, so ive put the usual amount i was putting in yesterday and half of it has gone already! where as the when i hardly put any in, they didnt drink that amount in 3 days. worth a try maybe?
