I'm sure I'm being a new-piggie owner worrier... But how much water (roughly) should they drink in a day?

Toffee and Tinkerbell came home yesterday and appear to have drunk little/no water? They did munch on grass for a couple of hours and had a little apple/broccoli.

They have free access to a new water bottle all day, it does work as I have tried it.

There is wee and poo in the hutch.

Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Thanks

that depends, really. i have 3 growing boys, and 1 relatively small water bottle. i fill it up everyday, and by the end of each day theres only a bit left, I'm not sure how many ounces. pigs tend to drink less if they have access to vegs and fruits, but they tend to drink more if they havent had much fresh foods or they dont feel well. so they're probably getting the hydration if they are peeing, but maybe to be safe maybe put your finger on the water spout and show them it's water?

I also had this problem, i never saw them drinking form the bottle, they knew it was there.

So in the end i put i little dish of water and started dousing there veggys in water also, so i am sure they are drinking what they need as they wee lots :)

I just dont think they are that keen on the bottle and for the first time this morning I saw bubble and squeek both drinking for the pot of water :):):):)

Difficult to judge how much they drink. The water bottle will sometimes hardly ever go down or I will not hear it being used. Other times our use it.
All our veggies are wet when they get put in the cage and I always make sure they have cucumber so they tend to get moisture that way.
Piggies also drink more in warmer weather.

As Piglet_and_rogers_mama said give the water bottle a squeeze everyday just to make sure it's working.

do they know how to use a water bottle? Jeff doesn't - he has his water in a bowl. My other three drink from a bottle and are hilarious if you offer them water in a dish - they plunge their little piggy faces straight in rolleyes

Thank you for all the advice :)

The water bottle has gone down a tiny amount ? I also put a water bowl in, still not sure if they've used that either.

They are both bright, eating and pooing well!

They seem happy to be picked up although are keen to end cuddles when they have had enough.

They spent lots of time in their run today munching grass, dandelion and a little apple. They also explored the whole run today compared with very little wandering about yesterday.

Hoping they are happy ?

It can vary - can be dependent of how much fruit/veg they get in their diet.
If they get plenty of veg with a high water content then they won't feel the thirst as much.

If their bright and active then I wouldn't worry too much - my guinea pig who is currently on his own hardly drinks much water compared to my pair of boars who drink quite alot, though they all get the same amount of veg.

I was worried my girls werent drinking, but they have plenty of veg and water is always available to them. Ive had them three weeks and they seem to have only just started using the bottle.

As someone told me on here, they will drink if they need to.

Dont worry, they know what they need and they will be fine x
