How much weight do Boars put on?

The reason for this is that Astro our rescued Boar seems to have piled on the weight since we had him.

We collected him on the 10 June 2012 and did a first weigh in on 17 June when he tipped the scales at 1158 grams (about 41 oz).

When we weighed him yesterday he was 1344 grams (about 47 oz).

So he has been putting on about 21 grams a week and we dont really know how old he is.

He is very active but wonder if he is simply content as he has three girls to himself, fleece to cuddle on (which he does frequently making sure some has been piled up for a pillow) and plenty of fresh veg and hay.
 
Both my two neutered boars have become chunks once they were happily married. Hywel The Greedy is a (very active) beer barrel on four paws at around 1400/1500g and Terfel has now safely topped the 1300g, too...
Every calorie he looks at seems to just jump on him with a few friends on tow as I definitely do not overfeed! my piggies only get about half a handful of pellets a day. mallethead
 
Know what, they lose weight SO fast if they get ill - I wouldn't worry. I have a great big chunky rex & having recently lost his brother who literally turned to bone within a few weeks, the chunkier the better in my opinion!
 
The downside for chunky boars is that the risk during an operation is much higher for a fat piggy. You will notice that fatter piggies tend to lose a lot of weight quite quickly when they are ill.
 
They pile on the paunch! My boys range between just over 1kg and very petite, up to 1200g and still growing at 6 months old!
 
Smudge is a whopper at just under 1800g! He's hyper and hardly stands still, but he's a big solid boy all over. The other two peaked at around 1250g.
 
The reason for the sudden weight gain might be that he is in a comfortable environment. Maybe before you got him he was a little stressed in the rescue and wasn't putting at much weight on. Now he has girls that he has to look manly for, slaves feeding him good food everyday and just generally living the life of luxury.

What !! thats a big boy..... :))

Our Wallace is 1200g and he's a big lad...
