I am just wondering how often a guinea pigs nails should be cut? The reason I ask is because they don't seem to grow much. I took both girls to the vets just before Christmas as they were sharp but she told me they didn't need doing yet (I felt to stupid). She said they didn't really need doing until they started to just curl over. I still haven't had to take them as their nails still aren't curling at all. They do run around on concrete though O0

I only do it as and when required. Every second time I clean out the cage I weigh them, and at that point I give them a checkover, which I refer to as the piggy MOT. We check how long the claws have gotten, look through the fur, check the eyes, etc.. You might find that sometimes only a particular paw has grown long and not all four, sometimes only a particular toe and not even the whole paw. There is no set time when you should cut them, but my hubby usually cuts them once they have grown to say 4mm before the live bit of the claw.

Same I only cut them when needed which isn't very often. One of my guinea pigs has a front claw which curls round, but i cant cut it cause its already short and I dont want to cut her nerve
