How old before for neutering?

How old should a piggie be before neutering?Rimmer is now 16weeks old and was the only piggy born to mum. He is now as big as my two sows who are nearly a year old. So given his size do you think I could take him in the next few weeks to be done.
The weather is getting warmer now and it would be great if he could finaly go into the hutch with the girls. We all feel sorry for him living alone and the sooner he is neutered the better because he can have two girlfriends :smitten:

I think it generally depends on your vet. Some vets say 5 months old and over 500g, others will neuter younger than that as long as the piggy is over 500g. Talk to your vet and see which they would prefer.

He weighs 2lbs and is HUGE for his age he is big boned too. Every vet I have rung said six months of age none have mentioned weight at all. I am going to book him in for the check up my friend is a vet and cannot believe the size of him already. She said book him in for his pre op check and get it done. He is going barmy all the time trying to get to the sows his cage is on top of thiers.
Just wanted to know what people think about it really The vets I will be using have come highly recommend by my friend and her husband also a vet. They would not do it for me as neutering a piggie is not easy. Many vets will not do piggies due to how difficult it is. I have had it discribed to me in so much detail what it intails.

I am wanting to get wilson neutered... he is one and weighs 1.2kg so i guess we will have no probs with him lol...

Give Davidsons vet a call & mention that he is huge & is well over 500g. I was seriously impressed when I spoke to the (DROP DEAD GORGEOUS) vet that I met. Can't remember his name but he really did seem to know guinea pigs. They use the body glue method rather than stitches which he said has proven to be fantastic with no reported infections at all. They are only £30 & if you call for a RSPCA voucher it'll only end up being £15 out of your pocket

I will have to think about getting new piggie done in the near future. Hils, I have never heard of getting a voucher from RSPCA.. do you just ring up any branch and ask ? Be interested to know more.
