IMG_1201.webp IMG_1258.webp IMG_1187.webp I recently took home my guinea pig, Piggy, from a pet store (I know, i couldn't find any pigs up for adoption in my area:(). However, they didn't give us any information about his age. I was wondering if anyone could guess (roughly) how old he is?

I don't have a scale small enough to weigh him. :( He feels pretty light when i hold him.

looks like he's still got his tiny and incredibly sharp baby nails too :))

Please get some scales; cheap kitchen scales from a supermarket are fine. Weekly weighing is an important tool in monitoring guinea pig health. Since birth weights can vary between 40g at the lowest to about 120g (that is three times the size) and this wide weight range in acceptable weights continues throughout their lives, it is rather difficult to judge a piggy's age just from its looks, apart from the fact that yours looks pretty young.
The Importance Of Weighing - Ideal Weight / Overweight / Underweight

As long as yours is eating well, is lively and putting on weight (and not losing any) there is no reason to worry. Guinea pigs reach adulthood at 15 months of age, so that is a long time to go for your piggy to reach its optimal genetically determined weight/size ratio.

I agree. Also Wiebke, I was wondering how to be a staff member.

Looks baby, usually in a pet store they seem to be 8-9 weeks but I,m not convinced they know half the time. I got one from an in store adoption centre a while back, the first member of staff told me previous to my visit and while I was there that the guinea pig was 2 yrs old. Then a second member of staff started arguing with them saying he was about 15 weeks. He looked too big to me to be 15 weeks but I think it's guess work. Sorry that probably doesn't help much!

He looks pretty young... my guess would be between 2 and 3 months of age. We've ended up with most of ours coming home around 12 weeks and then we similar in size, perhaps a bit bigger.
