Hello!

I'm new incase you haven't guessed.

I bought a piggie yesterday after falling in love with him (I only went in for bunny toys ;D)
I know a lot of you don't believe in pet shops, but he was gorgeous and feisty, and I do have a rescue bun at home so I've done my bit!

I bought a single male as I'm guessing two would fight, but I have a pair of bonded bunnies and they are so happy that I'd like to get him a girlie a some point.

He is about 6 weeks now, but how old does he have to be before he can have the snip? I haven't had guineas for a while so I guess things have moved on since I last had one. Do people have females spayed like rabbits?

He's still lacking a name... He's dark brown with orange patches, and stripe round his middle. Will post pics later.

At my vets we castrate male gps at 4 1/2 months old, will double check later.

Hi,

My new pig Golly sounds like yours! I was gonna call him Mr Bumble cause he's a bit like a bee too! Just to give you some ideas!

Hiya, welcome to the GPF. Looking forward to seeing pics of both your pig and your bunnies. Make sure you shop around for castration prices, I'm thinking of doing my male and I've had quotes ranging from £30 up to £75 :o

I rang a few vets yesterday as I'm thinking of heaving my 18 week old boy done. The first vet said 6 months and was £48. second said its not the age but how developed he is so need to see how "big" they are! and was £43. The last one said 3 months and was £25. The last one is a good price but I think 3 months is too young and would say at least 5 months. It is a lot more complicated for a female to be done and is usually only recommended for medical reasons. Welcome to the forum. ;)

Ideally I like to have them neutered at 5 to 5 1/2 months of age. I personally wouldn't do it any sooner than that :)
I've got a little lad coming in within the next week or so and rang vets this morning to ask up to date price and it's 35.00.

Welcome to the forum :)

My vets gave me a rough estimate of £15 to £25 and my boys are 11 & 12 months

:o I need your vet, my own vet said £67 maybe a bit more depending on how it went

Harrys being neutered tomoro and hes 10months its costing me £45 though do look into the bonding with a boar first, i didnt try that with harry but he just doesnt like males so hes going to move in with my two girlies x

I have just had three, three month old boys neutered last week. If their testicles are well descended then our vet will neuter them for us. Some I have had to wait until later if te=hey were not developed enough ;)

I've got 2 boars that are 10 weeks old so I think they're a bit young yet. Do you need to get boars castrated if the 2 of them live together? (thinking because of behaviour reasons)?

Having them neutered will not affect whether they will fight or not. the only thing it will do is stop them getting a female pregnant. if your 2 don't get on having them "done" won't help. the only good thing is, if you have them done you could them get a girlie each and they would probably be happier!
