How should a cage be before you throw it out? And what should it look like, because I think my friend's cage is looking pretty scrappy, and I think she should throw it out now!

As long as its ok for the piggy's I am sure they don't care.
I have some clothes like that:))

The state of a cage should be: sturdy and in one piece

Not dirty - any build up of limescale and dirt should be cleaned and scrubbed off, as should the outsides and underside of a cage from time to time. Limescale can be dissolved with white (industrial) vinegar.

However, if it is very ratty, you might want to get a new one.

There is like this brown nasty build-up on the bottom and we can get it off no matter how hard we scrub. Every time we clean, we use Nature's Miracle and that will get any thing off, even the toughest odor!

Soak the bottom in white vinegar for about 10-15 mins, give it a good scrub afterwards, wash in soapy water then rinse with clean water. If it doesn't get the mark off the first time repeat & of course dry it thoroughly before adding bedding & piggies :)

Thanks, Niki! That was really helpful! I will try that!
