How Smelly Should Poop Be?

That's not exactly true, their poop definitely does smell! It's their urine that's odourless, which is why they're perfect indoor pets :)

This is another reason why you should spot clean the piggies every single day! I have 4 so end up doing it twice a day or more haha
 
Sometimes I find poops can smell more depending on what they have been eating. Broccoli and cabbage makes my boys poops really stink.
 
How smelly should poop be? Shouldn't the question be How often are you smelling their poops?! :))

@TheCavySlave the clues in the name, Godfrey and Duncan have you running round after them at their every wheek and whim, now smelling their poops! I bet they're loving this subservience from you!

But yeah, depending how close you get, poops can be whiffy! If I'm doing a spot clean and accidentally get a bit of a fresh un under a fingernail, I find that can be stinky.

Pepper breath is worse, I find. Or, combine the two - poop breath is particularly foul :yikes:
 
Broccoli, parsley and some cabbages can cause smellier poos than normal, but they always whiff a bit. Hence why most of us poo patrol regularly.

Unfortunately there is no odourless pet.... unless you opt for a stuffed toy! ;)
 
Is it inappropriate that I'm laughing at this thread lol.
I have yet to be poo'd on but have been wee'd on heaps.
Their fleece pee pads get a a bit whiffy and need to be washed regularly, I assumed that was urine.
 
I find it is urine that smells if cage is left too long between cleans,causes amonia smells,it is only when the aubiose is disturbed on clean day .poops smell as suggested above when given veggies from the brassica family.:)
 
A few years back our pig had this issue but we were giving too many fruits and not enough hay. It seems to have leveled out. Also, on the topic of guinea waste, guinea pig poops make excellent compost for the garden!

I have heard about their poo being good for compost and was reading a article about it the other day, I think I am going to try this and try to grow some of the herbs and veg they like the most.

guinea pig waste is excellent for composting.
 
Guinea pig poo is brilliant in the compost bin, along with left over hay and veg. In the growing season if you have plants in pots sprinkle a few poops on the top of the compost once or twice a week it soon disolves when plants are watered. I also sprinkle poops around veg growing in the veg plot. The piggies share the veggies and poop again. They do say what goes around, comes around. :))
 
Guys! Oh my word, yeesh, what happened is my sister was like "smell this" sounding worried and I was just like nope. But she persisted, so I asked on here.
Also poop breath is unpleasant. It would be worse on a human though:eek:
I'm so paranoid about them, I admit. Still, they seem grateful. They're actually quite affectionate, Godfrey's very licky:love:which is lovely if you don't think about where his tongue's been.
 
I had a very strange one yesterday as well. I just rescued a 2 year old boar who was housed only on straw and he was eating it like hay. His poops were a light brown in colour, I have never seen this before. I swapped him onto hay yesterday straight away and today his poops are back to being black. Feel so much better for him now.
