hey everyone!
I was just wondering how i could approach my shy piggy the best, this because i'm getting a lot of different advise and sites are contradicting each other. It's hard to know what is best.
The piggies have their own room that is really not used for anything else but piggy housing rn. I try to go in about 3/4 times a day and chat to to them all whilst I give them water, food or change out some of the flax.
After I do that i continue to talk to them for a while before I leave.
I try not to be in the cage or near their hideys too much and here it gets confusing. I was always taught to let a scared animal come to you, and give it as much time as it needs.
Now i have sites and people telling me i shouldn't do that and i should try pick them up daily so they get used to me. I find that weird advise, it makes little sense to me to pick up a distressed animal and putting it in an even more distressing situation to help it "get used to me". But then again, i'm no expert on piggies so I figured I would just ask :D

With prey animals you have to build up trust. Some people go all forceful and pick piggies up right from the off. I have never gone down this route as I think stress breeds stress but each to their own.

I think you are going about things the right way, going in talking to them, letting them get used to the sound of your voice. I would then start hand feeding in their houses getting the little heads to pop out and take food off you. Then start taking them out for lap time.... We have always used the technique below to pick up

my piggies aren't nearly as active as these though!
Should i give them some time until they get at least this active in their cage ?

i'm still not seeing much activity around here. I spent all m time sitting next to them but they barely come out of hiding. Now i got the advise to take away their blanket (as they are always hiding in that) because when they hide there they don't see me or anything. Now the blankie is getting a bit smelly but I'd feel pretty bad taking it away they like it so much :( But it is true that last night, when the blankie was taken out for a bit (i was trying to get some of the hay out) they were much more curious and i would see the tip of their noses peeping out of their hidey holes to see what i was up to.
What do you guys think ? Take out the blankie or no ? They have other hideys just not as hidden, warm and comfy as their blankie

If it needs a wash it needs a wash XD To settle my newbies I put a towel over half the cage so they feel more secure, that might help if you need to wash it :)
