Dear forum friends,
I despise having my nails cut & wiggle as much as I can& shout very loudly.
I have just managed to distract the hooman slave from attempting to cut my nails. Apparently I have broken a tooth!
I can’t feel anything, this hay cube is yum though, glad she put me down for playtime & didn’t cut my nails.

Wheeks Billy

(Thanks Billy….. guess that’s us going to the vets tomorrow.)

I feel bad for laughing, but also, it's one of the best excuses I've heard for a while. Poor Billy and poor your vet fund!

Don’t feel too bad. I had to share it like this as that’s entirely Billy’s personality, anything to avoid his paws/nails being looked at he is such a drama king.

Dear Billy,
I have a better way to avoid nail cutting. Bite the hooman hard in the fleshy bit between the thumb and finger, just hard enough to draw a little bit of blood. Hooman made me sit on her lap for a bit afterwards and I got stroked but she'll think twice before she cuts my nails again.
Much better than damaging yourself, damage the hooman.
Kind regards,
Bertie.

I didn't know wheter to laugh or cry but in a guinea pig's head not getting their nails cut is a big goal achieved.
Hope Billy can still eat on his own.
Good luck at the vet's!
So far, so good. He’s just eaten pellets, drunk from the water bottle& has been pootling about in hay all day. Yesterday was weekly weigh in. He’s porky!
No idea when he broke his tooth, sometime between last night & this afternoon.

Dear Bertie,
Thank you for the top tip. As I have just overheard slave on the phone, turns out I have a vet visit later, which I hadn’t planned.
I think next time I will take your advice & nip instead. Perhaps breaking a tooth was a little dramatic.
Wheeks Billy

Billy’s vet visit went well. He’s been given a clean bill of health. Tooth break is clean, and about half way down. No need for pain relief. We have got a follow up in 3 weeks incase his top incisors have become overgrown, & need a trim, but may not need the appointment if alls looking straight.
He was not impressed with the vet visit, and we have had a hooman to pig chat about being dramatic, perhaps in future I will be allowed to trim his nails. (Probably very wishful thinking!)

Billy is currently pootling about the playpen& rumbling at Hamish.
Think he’s complaining that he had to go too the vets alone. Hamish seems to have enjoyed a hay party for one without his nosy neighbour trying to join in!

Our chat….
Billy “ wee week wee, wibble, wibble, chut chut”
”I know I am dramatic, and now I want to go in the playpen and see if Hamish is still here. Oh, and food pls… is it pellet time? Wheeeeeeeeek!”

Me” Next time pls can I just cut your nails, before they hurt your paws?, and can we try to avoid vet visits?“

Think we need to work on our communication skills! 🤣
I still haven‘t trimmed Billy’s front paw nails. 🤦🏼‍♀️
