My parents have finally agreed to let me fix the cage on top of a run and put a ramp down so the piggies can have more excercise, but I've thought about it and I cant think how the run would support the cage. If you know what I mean and you've got one, could you leave pics of it or suggestions? MY friend had one but she moved and I dont remeber how it worked.

Will this be a C&C cage with run underneath or hutch with run underneath? or something else?

Maybe you can built the run then put a peice of wood over one end then the cage on top? :)

I'm not 100% sure what you mean, but I have a cage on top of 2 bigger ones and I used MDF to support it :)

I mean an outdoor hutch on top of an outdoor run, with a hole in the floor of the hutch and a ramp leading down into the run. I want to have a little sliding door so that I can control the time they have in the run.
I'm just not sure how a peice of wood would hold a cage, 2 kg of piggy and a lot of newspaper.

If you could possibly post a picture of the hutch and run, we could get a better idea. My OH is good at working out stuff like this ;D

Well I havent built the run so I cant post a pic, but I mean one with a wooden frame and chicken wire in the frame.
The hutch is just a normal wooden pet shop hutch.
I was going to fix the hutch on top of the run and then cut a hole in the bottom of the hutch with a ramp leading down into the run. Think of it as a double decker hutch only with the bottom floor being a run.

You will need to use a thick enough wood for the frame work of the run to take the weight of the hutch. Then the 2 ends and the back will take the weight of the hutch

I see what you mean. Yes as Sokel says, you will have to use thicker wood to make the run or raise the hutch up on strong legs so that it just sits on the run but the weight is supported by the legs :)

Thanks Lindsay7, this is excactly what I mean and the hutch is actually the hutch I've got so I know excactly how to do it. Its given me ideas and I've got till the summer to plan it so thanks!
I do want the run to be a bit bigger though as thats going to be the mainstay of their excercise.

There is no reason why you cant have the run bigger and coming out to the back of the hutch, if you see what I mean, so the hutch is in the middle? That would make it more stable too.

Thats a good idea, but putting it so that the hutch was on the edge facing outwards would make it easy to get them out a clean them.....I'll have to think about that

yeah you could just build the hutch so that the hutch is first then the run is behind it maybe so its easier to clean :D

This may be getting a bit farfetched as my brother and dad arent excactly great builders but I was kind of thinking it could be detatchable so we could put the hutch in the garage when it got cold-possibly it could be sliding or something?

As everyone's out all day for 6 hours on weekdays is it safe to leave the entrance to the run open during the day? I dont think their are foxes in our neighbourhood but I cant be sure. THeir cage is very foxprooof so surely they would run back into the cage if something approached them?
