My girl Pebbles has one paw that has 3 black nails and I am not sure how to cut them? Cuz I cant see the veins, where it stops or starts or anything and I don't wanna cut too much..
I understand why you are worried, but don't worry if you do catch the quick. The bleeding can be reduced and stopped by dipping the nail in styptic powder or flour, although it does clot itself very quickly anyway.
The easiest thing is to trim little and often. Just take the tips off, but do it every 3 weeks instead of monthly.
As I have said many times, there is no need to apply anything to a nail that is cut too short. The bleeding time and clotting time is quite short and it will stop of it's own accord.
how much will having their nails cut at a vet cost? mine really need theirs cutting but i really dont want to do it myself as i am very clumsy and non steady handed...
What makes you think that a vet would be any better at cutting the nails than you?
Get some nail clippers and have a go yourself. The first one will be the worst (for you).
