Does anyone have tips to keep cats out of my boys cage? My roommate has a kitten that she has suddenly started leaving out and about in the house. The cat is not vaccinated and keeps using his bedding box as a litter box, I'm finding poop in it everyday! I told her to keep that cat in her room but she has a dog now and the dog has worms and I dont want it to get anything. I tried a spray bottle for a couple days but it didn't work, my apartment is a loft and my room is the whole upstairs floor so I dont have a door to lock it out. My pig has a c&c cage but it doesnt have any kind of lid.

Have you asked your roommate about worming her dog and vaccinating her cat? I don't think she is giving her pets proper care. Also, to stop cats going near there you could put some orange oil? My cats and a lot of other cats I know hate the smell of citrus.

No, she doesnt really give them good care. I got dewormer for the dog myself but he's a puppy and pooped on the floor a bit so I have to make her clean the carpet. She didnt fix the cat either, even though I got her an appointment for a free spay :/ the cat is less than a year old and has 3 kittens of her own. I'm not a big cat person but I'm not really comfortable putting the cat back in her room at the moment. Thank you for the suggestion! I will definitely have to try that!

You can make a lid from more grids and zip ties. You can overlap them if the cat jumps on top and you think it needs strengthening. Are you in the uk?

You need a c&c lid or a commercial cage. Your friend sounds very irresponsible, is it possible for you to find somewhere else to live?

Hi!

Please do not use potentially fatal spray products around guinea pigs and other small animals! Your room mate is clearly not fit to have pets. You always need to make sure that any products you used are safe for small animals and ideally you move them out.

Is there any way you can block entrance to your loft with a grid or a wooden frame with mesh of some sort that the dog or cat cannot move?

You can get a C&C grid lid from one of the cage suppliers to make the cage itself safe: All About C & C Grid Cages Around The World

Oh that sounds really stressful.
I'm imagining that maybe your spray bottle had water in it? I've used that with my neighbour's cats on occasion when I've found them catching birds.
When they (neighbour's cats) have tried to come into my house I've used a kind of cardboard hurdle system. Some packaging of large objects can be quite tall, wide and stable and useful for this. It can also surround a cage to deter interest.
It must be difficult trying to guide your room mate towards a more appropriate attitude towards her animals. It sounds like you've been doing your best to help all the animals involved.
I hope you find a workable solution soon.

US. I'm on Texas

The C&C cage link in my previous post includes US suppliers.

Keep in mind that cage kit suppliers will also accommodate any cage additions, like lids and extra grids. ;)
Alternatively you can see whether you can source grids to cable tie via ebay or amazon.
