Hello everyone!

I adopted two guinea pigs more than a month ago (both sows) and one of them was pregnant (I didn't know about this, of course). So suddenly, one small face appeared next to one of my piggies. Luckily she had just one baby, so I plan to take care of him (yes, two sows and one boar, amazing xD).
I separated him from his mother (he is very healthy, grown up and weights 250g (a bit more)).
My two sows eat plenty of veggies but the baby only seems to want watery veggies (endive, for example) and a bit of carrot. I want to feed him veggies with vitamin C (not watery because they aren't that good..). But he refuses to try bell pepper and parsley. How can I make him get used to veggies?

Thank you so much <3

Was he eating them when in with his mum? Try coriander, it’s a good source of vitamin c. And does he eat pellets? I would be careful about giving him carrots too often, they’re high in sugar.

There’s a food feeding guide on the link below. Is his cage next to the sows? And do you plan to neuter him and put him back in with them?

No, when he was with his mum only the watery ones. Even when I gave his mum a bit of bell pepper and he smelt it from his mother's mouth he didn't seem too interested. I know that about carrots and just tried one day, that's why I was asking, because I don't want him to eat unhealthy things T_T.
His cage is next to the sows, yes, where he can see, smell and hear his mum (and the other sow, of course). And yes, when he gets older I plan to neuter him and put him back with the sows (I had a question about that too, how old is it okay to neuter a boar?).
I will check the link you gave me, thank you!

edit: I forgot to tell about pellets. Yes, he eats pellets since he was so little (3-4 days old, I think). He seems to be VERY interested in that.

As soon as the testicles have descended enough is the time to get him neutered. Your vet will check for this. Please make sure the vet you use has a good track record of neutering guinea pigs.👍

Thank you so much for the info! I will get a good vet, of course!

Well, try giving a lot of different watery veggies, like zucchini and celery. That might help him to try new veggies in general

Cutting veggies into smaller pieces help the young piggie be more curious about the food and easier to eat (which could be the reason why he likes the watery veggies)

Congratulations on the baby.
It sounds as if you are doing everything right.

With the veggies my suggestion is to try a little bit of a variety of veggies. He may well broaden his tastes when he has been neutered and is back with the sows.
Mine love dill - they can't get enough of it.
Cucumber is another firm favourite - I cut a slice into quarters so they are manageable chunks.

Hope all goes well with him as he grows.

Hi

Just persist with the veg; try fresh herbs for vitamin C and and if necessary sprinkle them with a bit of juiced carrot at first. Fresh grass is also good to feed. Most people are not aware that it is actually a source of vitamin C (as is hay).
Some piggies are pickier than others. He should hopefully catch up when he is back with the sows as the 'I want what you have' reflex is quite strong.

Here is our very detailed and comprehensive neutering information, which will hopefully answer all your questions.
