Hi,

I have two baby guineas (coming up to three weeks old). I'm taking them to the vet this weekend to be sexed...but I have a sneaking suspicion that one is a girl and one is a boy! mallethead

The girl can go in with my two other piggies, but the boy will need a friend. I have no idea how to go about this! Is it best to get another baby the same age? or an older one? Can they be put together whilst this one is so young? ?/

Thanks!

Would you consider re-homing the little boy? We sadly lost our piggies brother on sunday, leaving rolo who is nearly 2 on his own, we are really struggling to find him a new friend :(

Hi, Sorry to hear that :( I think that I'll probably keep him I'm afraid...

Id probably get an older boar if I was you. The older boar should put the youngster in its place and thus reducing the risk of dominance wars if there was too youngsters hitting the hormonal stage at the same time.

Thanks Bailey, unfortunately Sophie hasn't any available and is not taking any more in. :(

I agree that an older rescue boar would be the best bet. That way, you avoid the big hormones hitting at the same time and significantly reduce the chances of fall outs. An older boar would also "daddy" your baby and teach him piggy etiquette at first.

Here is a list of rescues in Essex. It is worth ringing around and ideally you want to find a rescue that allows you to boar date at the rescue to see how the boys are getting on.
