My friend thinks her guinea pigs have mites. They are off to the vets tomorrow but she asked if there is anything that can relieve the itching before then. Does anyone have any advice?

If they are seeing the vet in the morning he/she should apply some treatment there and then. There should be an improvement in a few days. A heavy infestation may require second treatment in 2 weeks time. I can't think of anything else, but some other forum members may have helpful hints.

As uncomfortable as it is, please do not treat, as any washes and creams can make any diagnosis more difficult. Fungal issues can often look rather similar in the early early stages. Any home treatment will also make it impossible for a vet to treat straight away. :(

The good thing is that they will get proper treatment tomorrow and the itching should come down quickly in the three days afterwards and should completely stop after the second round. A third round is needed to mop up any stragglers and prevent a comeback.
