how to travel with new pups

i have been looking on many sites for info on travelling with new pups. my daughter has two boys and we are off in the half term travelling to a campsite for a few days . currently they live indoors in a large cage and she handles them on a soft fleece or towel.
Has anyone used the top of the large style cages a temp run and what sort of cage would be best for them the rest of the time? we will be bringing them into a nicely heated tent at night with a blanket .any suggestions?

We use the blue addies recommended by wiebke. 2 piggies in each fleece on newspaper with added handful of hay. We stop every hour to hour and a half. Give some cucumber and lettuce (romaine).
