I have a boy that's a Sheba Mini Yak. And he has a particular hair style. And it grows by the minute. And yes my boys gets stinky most around the bum area. I bathe him once a month or sooner when I can't stand seeing him dirty. The problem is he doesn't stay still to let me trim he's hair. Do you guys have any tips. I did try trimming it 2 days ago after a bath. A d cut as much as he allow me. But is there a way to make him let me trimmed hes hair? I need to learn a way because soon there will be 3 piggies needing a trimmed.

Some of mine are like that even with another person helping but we get there and its nature. I find a second pair or hands helps and I trim as quick as I can, and take off the under coat leaving the top slightly longer, it might not be the neatest job in the world but it keeps them cleaner and cooler. Once a month is too often to bathe, have you just tried doing bum baths and cleaning the grease gland? I have white and cream coloured perus and an alpaca and I don't bathe them that often, if they get dirty I will wash the bum end to keep them clean but a full bath only happens occasionally :)

I'm a little neat freak. A clean house is a happy house. My piggies have a small cage at the moment. So it need at least for me to clean there cage 4 o 3 times a week. I don't know where the grease gland is. I can't see it. Or maybe is that I keep them clean. They love there baths. And my problem is I'm having a allergic reaction to there nails. When they get in contact with my skin, I have a rash and it itch's like crazy. So guys in this forum have told me is there peer or something similar. So I need them clean. I have a special shampoo and conditioner for them. Thanks for the advice. I will tell my hubby to help me trimmed there hair. And keep my piggies clean and happy.

Over bathing can over time cause skin problems as your washing away the good oils in the skin. The grease gland is near the back end and is less noticeable on long haired piggies but its there. I have 21 male piggies and my long haired ones are cleaner then my short. I replied on your allergy thread as I used to be allergic to my old piggies, when handling wear long sleeved, keep the nails trimmed to stop sharp points forming, I found when they had sharper nails it was worse. I had a break for 4 years before having piggies again and my allergies now gone which is even stranger :)
