I never knew about the ear temperature regulation, but that explains why Theo keeps rubbing his ears on the water bottle this week then flapping them! Do you have a reference at all for the taste bud info? I give a comparative animal physiology lecture on taste receptors and evolution so that would be a great thing to add in for next year's class, all my zoology students love guinea pigs!

Sadly, I can't find the link. I think I picked that one up via the Cavy savvy community. They are usually pretty careful where they source their information snippets from.
