My lovely hubby knows I’m a sucker for GpS and he went to PAH for dog food and came home with a large black boar GP. He said he felt sorry for him: well
Instantly I know this pig is ill. No matter how scared he is he doesn’t run. He hasn’t eaten or drank at all: I have started CC and made him a hospital cage. He will only take water or food from a syringe . I’m taking him straight to the vets tomorrow. He is a large pig compared to our older sows. They said he is 8 weeks old. He can’t be. He has large testicle lumps and is so big. I am so sad for him. PAH said he is so chilled and friendly...
Yes because he is so ill

Oh no ☹️ Bless your husband for rescuing him. Hopefully tomorrow will bring news of his ability to return to health. Poor baby.

Hi! Poor boy; he is certainly older than 4 months if the testicles are showing. Have any new piggy vet checked, and if there are health issues, take the bill to pet@home.

It is more likely that he is simply frightened stiff and traumatised. Please place a towel over the cage, place hay, water and some veg near to his cosy and leave him be to get his bearings. He will move when he feels that nobody is in the room. Make sure that your dog is away from the room he is housed, in case he has bad experiences.

If you wish, check his weight and feel around the ribs; if you can just about feel them, he is a good weight for his size and you need not worry, only if you can feel each rib sticking out.

Take the time to read these guides here to understand about prey animal instincts and how you can avoid triggering them. Use guinea pig whispering tips to make friends with him in ways that he instinctively understands. I have found that this (and the presence of other relaxed piggies in the room) is the best way of starting a relationship with piggies that operate entirely on their instincts when they arrrive and that are literally scared stiff.

He is cold. I have given a heat source and syringed water and rubbed sugar on his gums. We are losing him I think

He had food , salad, hey and mush made from pellets. His cage is covered with a blanket

Should I take him to bed with me for heat or leave him in the cage?

If he is taking food and water from a syringe, then that is a good sign. If you wish, put him in a carrier and take him up with you. Keep him comfortable and warm, but not hot. Make sure that he has got hay, water and a little veg (grass or fresh herbs) nearby to where he is sitting. Put a blanket or fleece over the carrier.

I think he needs sub cut fluid which I can’t give. Is there an oral way to administer this? I also wonder if he has no vitamin c production. Have given him some fresh grass and dandelion leaves

When I got my Piggies from P@H they included a free health check with the vet up to days later so why not take advantage of this?

Good that he made it through the night. How is he now?

Autocorrect is a real pain.

More importantly- how is your boy?
It sounds as if he’s landed on his paws with you

Well he has started moving around now and acting far more normally. I actually didn’t go to the vet as I felt this could stress him further and I wanted to allow him time to relax and hear and see the other pigs so that they can reassure him. He is no longer cold and he has been eating his food and salad too. I am thinking he is out of the woods now.

Hello, he is doing brilliant! He is eating huge amounts and loves playing in mounds of hay. He loves his green veg and seems like one happy boy. He will be neutered soon and move in with the girls x
