I've noticed Sundae has a patch that looks fungal on her inner back leg. Can human antifungals be used for guinea pigs? I know Guinea Lynx says that Monstat 7 2% cream can be used on guinea pigs. I also have a human prescription for ringworm from when my son had it (called Lamisil) but it's a prescription med, and specifically for ringworm. I'm positive this is not ringworm, having had both humans and animals with it in the past! I'm honestly wondering about yeast, since being on antibiotics can lead to yeast infections in humans and she is on week three of antibiotics for her bladder right now. I will have to take her back for vet follow-up for her bladder and antibiotics in about two weeks anyhow, but would like to try treating her at home first if it's safe to try. Thanks in advance!

And just to add- is there any danger in her ingesting it? It is someplace she can reach with her teeth. I know there are also baths, but being as it's a very cold winter in Canada right now, I would rather not get her wet. Even in the house, it's cold when it's that far below freezing outside!

Hi. When one of my boys had a fungal infection, the vet advised me to use Daktarin cream which can be bought at a chemist until the results of his skin tests came back. Unfortunately the tests showed that it was ringworm so a pet medication was given (which worked really quickly). The Daktarin didn't really do anything and my piggie really didn't like me putting it on him, so the medication was much better.

If you are sure its not ringworm and maybe yeast, could she be given a probiotic to rebalance the gut a bit? I know that anitbiotics can unsettle their tummies... maybe one of the more experienced guinea pig owners on here could give you a little more information.

Good luck
