Just a general question really..my female guinea has cystitis..can you use human medication?..I read somewhere that certain ones are ok

Yes you can, those sachets that make up into a drink. I got the dosage wrong last time I tried to tell someone about these, so hopefully someone will be along to tell you the right dosage soon. But they do work.

A warm salt bath is also very soothing for sore bits. Not very salty mind.

The normal antibiotics for a UTI would be trimethoprim or nitrofuratoin...I think I've read trimethoprim can be used for piggies? Not 100% sure thou...
I think you can give piggies a little unsweetened cranberry juice, thou...that is very good for UTIs

For cystitis you can use the little human sachets, if you make up one sachet (following the instructions on the packet) and then give your piggie half a cup of the solution once a day for at least 8 days.

You can also give her 0.2ml of childrens neurofen twice a day if need be, it might make her feel better.

But ideally she needs trimethoprim (septrin) from the vets.

xx.

Folks, can we please be careful about giving advice on self-medication. Recommending antibiotics when you are "not sure" is extremely dangerous territory. Yes, human cystitis sachets can relieve the symptoms (they neutralise the acid in urine) but they are not a cure.

See a vet.
