I knew something was amiss, but couldn't quite put my finger on it. Still can't.
And this evening when I got home from work, she was far too quiet and hadn't moved from her house all day. She won't eat, and was very lethargic so I took her in. Well, she protested at leaving me for her check up, kept trying to climb back into my arms, she even licked me, as if to say "Please take me home"..
I can't bring her home tonight as I have a 12 hour shift tomorrow, and I don't want to leave her at home in case she takes a nose dive. She went from incoherent to fairly alert between home and the vets.
The lump I found has mysteriously disappeared, and there are no visible signs of illness, her eyes are clear, and no sores in her mouth. The only thing that doesn't seem to be doing much is her guts, she hasn't passed much the way of dropping wise, and her bum is clean too.

Oh I am sorry to hear this. You did have a feeling something was wrong. I hope the vets can find out what it is and get her back to her usual self.

If she'd have gone off her food sooner, i'd have took her in, but she seemed otherwise herself, apart from not playing with BonBon.. I seem to remember Liquorice took to eating carpet when she was poorly, and the vet did feel a mass in her stomach the day she was pts. Humbug was going mad for it earlier in the week, I have mentioned this to the vets, as although I keep a close eye on them, I can't always stop her in time, and she was picking at big threads of it (about a cm long)I really worry about possible impaction caused by it.
I know most guinea pigs get away with it, surely lightening doesn't strike twice?! It's now going to be the one possible symptom of an underlying issue especially if the piggy never used to do it, Humbug only started after Liquorice did, and Liquorice only started when she was ill and was 4 and a half.

No please do not think like that. I totally understand your worried but she may very well be fine. I know what happened before was terrible but this may be something else.

Poor you and poor Humbug, the vets is the best place for her. They will monitor her closely and get food and fluids into her. Hopefully they can get a handle on what is causing her to be poorly. try not to worry over the carpet it shouldn't be a problem. Have a virtual hug. Keeping little Humbug in our thoughts. Let us know when you find anything out.

She is in the best place, I hope they can find out what is wrong, sounds to me like she may have bloat or some other gastro upset, it can come on very quickly.

Well, she's stayed in overnight and today, and I've brought her home for overnight care with me. I'm off now for a few days, so have the time to give her that tlc she needs. She hasn't passed anything yet though, and has a mountain of medication to take.
She's bright enough in herself, still very quiet in the cage, but has a much improved appetite, minus the nuggets though at the moment, she's also on critical care, metacam, baytril and a gut stimulant. She's going back to see the vet in the morning.
She now also purrs again when I rub her back, which is more than yesterday.

It sounds like she is feeling much better. Does the vet know what is wrong?

At this time it's pointing at her guts. I'd say she's about 75% health wise, she seems to be happier sat on a warm bed, so i've heated up a heat pad and wrapped it in a towel to keep her warm. Every now and then, she looks to be thinking about doing a runner, but then stops and crouches again, so I think she's still tender inside :(

Poor Humbug, hope all the meds and TLC make her feel alot bet tomorrow, she must be uncomfortable even having had the metcam by what you are describing, good thing she has had some metcam to help her through. Sending healing vibes for Humbug.

She's just took a good long drink from the water bottle, albeit I had to hold the bottle for her, but she seemed to relish it. She seems to be suffering muscle tremors along her back and occasional twitching in her tummy, but I think that has something to do with the gut stimulant as it seems to pass quite quickly.

Just had her meds, she tried to take the syringes out of my hand, definite change in her tonight. She's had a small piece of lettuce to help wash the taste of the baytril away :)

Sorry, only just caught up with your thread. Hope the gut stims kick in and she starts to feel better soon. Any sign of poo yet?

Not yet @sport_billy :( But I think there are signs things are starting to move, just wish things were moving just that bit quicker. She's sat in the cuddle tunnel, facing the food bowl, which is better than facing a wall. I think I might crush a few nuggets and dampen them for her, then see what she thinks, as she is starting to think about food in general :)

I really hope she starts pooing soon, the massage should help. Is she ducking down at all? I find that when my pigs are poorly they eat every poo they produce so we think they aren't pooing but they are.

Maybe a little poo soup would help her too, poo from a healthy piggie mushed with around 1ml of water. Pigs love this and it will help the good gut flora.

aww bless, i dread one of mine getting bloat type stuff, it scares me so much. sounds like you are doing a good job x

She is one very determined and stubborn piggy, she tried eating my wine glass earlier, and wants to jump out of my hands as I get to the cage, you should have seen her eyes light up when she realized she was home :)
She loves to rest her front paws on my hand, and even now, she's still doing it even though she feels pants.
