Humping problem

The past few weeks my dominant girl Sherbert has gone humping mad. :{ Three times in the past 2 weeks she's gone on a humping spree and poor little Rio has been on the recieving end. She'll go round humping all night not leaving Rio alone for more than a minute, this morning she was still harassing her when I went out to uni this morning but she seems to have calmed down now. She's over 3 years old and I've never seen her hump anyone until a couple weeks ago now she wont stop :(
Any idea what's caused this change? I know ovarian cysts can cause hormone problems but I can't see any other signs of cysts and really hope it's nothing as serious as that. Anyone else experience this sort of behaviour?
 
I have! My 4 year old girl, Treacle, has only just started trying to pester/mount in the past couple of days! My 2 girls LOVE to cuddle, like all the time. But when Bernadette comes into season (which is normally a few days before Treacle), she kicks her out and wants to be alone! Now I think Treacle might have got annoyed with this (she's the top pig, after all!) and is trying to assert her dominance over Bernadette.
When Treacle did start showing changes, I did take her to the vets to get her checked over for cysts, but was told there was nothing to worry about. If you're that worried, then you can always get her checked over. Have a good feel of her lower abdominal region and see if there's anything abnormal - guineas don't always show the physical symptoms like hair loss etc.
Guinea pigs do come into season every couple of weeks, and that will show changes in behaviour, particularly if there are boys anywhere near!
 
It can be a hormonal issue; often it is smaller ovaries growing a bit. A couple of my middle aged sows whent bonkers for a while this year. Hopefully, things will calm down again. If necessary, separate your girls overnight.

If necessary, see a vet. Not all hormonal issues show the classic signs.

I had this problem with one of my girls. Ellie was humping for Britain and constantly chasing my other three girls around rumble strutting, teeth chattering and generally being a pain.

I have had her checked for cysts and the vet could find nothing wrong.

She still shows hormonal behaviour but has calmed down a lot since then but I am waiting for the next episode mallethead
 
Phew, glad it's a fairly common thing, no boys around luckily, they're rowdy enough as it is I can't imagine how much chaos there might be if there were :)). Thanks for the link Weibke, I'll have a feel around for any cysts (she wont like that :{) and take her to the vets if I think I've found anything or she carries on doing it. Hopefully she's just becoming a grumpy middle aged piggy like her mum :))
 
Neither Rosie or Daisy had any hair loss when they had cysts. Rosie got crusty nipples but Daisy had nothing at all, was just hormonal, which set alarm bells ringing as I had seen how Rosies attitude had changed. Daisy responded well to the hormones, I could really see the change in her. If it does carry on do take Sherbs for a check up.

I didnt know Rosie and Daisy both had cysts. I will deff take my Sherbie pig to the vets if shee carries on, better to be safe than sorry.
 
Thats why Rosie died. The vets convinced me to spay her.

:( poor Rosie pig.
Having a poke at Sherbs belly but she's so solid i doubt I'd be able to feel anything if there was anything to feel :/
 
I doubt you would feel anything anyway unless you knew what you were feeling for. She is a chunky money :) Like Charlotte.

I didnt think I would but I thought I'd have a try. She's such a chunky monkey, not much bigger weight wise but she's shorter and more compressed :p
