so I am in the process of bonding an older pig with a younger pig. it is going well and all the behaviours are normal although I am not very sure about one. I have heard of mounting in guinea pigs but is humping also normal and its the younger boar on the older pig so I am a little worried. I know they are both boars.

thanks for any help you have to offer

Hi, don't worry it's totally normal dominance behaviour. The little one may just be excited about having a friend he should calm down eventually.

It is generally the older boar that humps the younger boar but there are always exceptions to the rule. My young boar of 5 weeks had a really mad humping fit of my older 2 year old boar, he wouldn't leave him alone. They have been together a month now and are completely fine with each other and there was no more humping after a few days.
Just keep and eye on them and if it is becoming excessive then think about some other options. It is a normal behaviour for bonding boars though so don't worry too much. You only need to worry if there has been any blood drawn.

Bonding humping can go both ways depending on the personality of the boars. As long as the older boar tolerates it or makes his displeasure known in a moderate way, you are fine.

Some older boars struggle to stand up for themselves. In those cases you need keep an eye out for signs of bullying.
