Hurricane Irma is making it's way towards me and I barely have any hay left and I can't make it too the store I don't live in the path of the storm but my Neighborhood floods easily. It's just my neighborhood has some Vintage Sewers and over the years they aren't cutting it anymore about 10 years ago flooding wasn't an issue and now our sewers can't handle 2-3 inches of rain. I would like to ask is it ok to ration my hay till Wednesday. I was going to buy more hay today but I got home late and can't get too town

That depends really, how many piggies have you got and how much hay? As it's 80-90% of their diet it's the most important thing to stock up on.

I know it's difficult with extreme weather, can you grab some tomorrow or have someone who can? Wednesday is a long way away.

No I already asked my sister but she has to work all day and so does my Mom. I only have one piggy currently until I get my C&C Cage which will come in 2-3 weeks. Too make it worse my Local Petsmart (Did Not Get My Pig from here) shut down the other pet stores are more an hour away I have a small window to ask my Dad to buy me some hay but I'm not sure when he will be home tommorw

Do you know if Amazon is still delivering to your area? I've gotten free one day shipping on Oxbow or Kaytee hay through them with my Prime account, and at most it would be two day shipping. If you can't leave your house I would think that's the best option, as it's very dangerous for guinea pigs to be without hay in abundance

Yes I have already tried that but right now the situation is terrible I think I will have to go get Walmart Small Animal Hay I know it's not High Quality but It will have to do till I get Oxbow when I looked at the back of the Walmart Hay it was a subsidiary of Kaytee

Any hay is better than no hay, hopefully your piggy will be grateful for your troubles to get more :)

Hope you're all keeping safe and sound.

I would agree that any hay is better than no hay. I was in no where near the same situation as you but I did forget to buy my usual hay online in time for it to arrive before I ran out. The pigs were left with a small amount on a Sunday evening which I topped up with some fresh grass and bamboo to help their teeth and on the Monday I got a £1.50 bag from Wilko which isn't great stuff but like you say its a stop gap to keep them going.

considering that the alert for the hurricane started many days ago and that you live in a high risk zone, you should have ordered on line 10kg of hay in time, as I always do although I live far from certain weather troubles...
anyway, now the only possibility is: ordering online the hay hoping it will arrive soon. Then, in the meanwhile, try to search on fb and online some rabbits owners or someone else who can give you a box of hay (that you will pay or refund in better days). There are a lot of groups and among the owners some help can easily arrive...
The quality of the hay is not important, also my piggies eat the cheapest hay

When we have bad snow here, I double stock up food & hay. Its been known for our house to be snowed in before & had to wait for the farmers to get the tractors out.

If however we get the warning, its the first thing I do.

Good luck.

Is there any grass in your garden? If you can't get hay its the next best thing.

I currently have a situation and I can't order online I should be going to the Supermarket soon

I thought Grass was bad for them that's what I was told by an Admin before on another forum well she said that in large amounts it is

It can be in a large amount if their guts aren't used to it. My daisy ended up with runny poops once when she had too much

:agr: Certainly correct, but it is better than having no hay at all.
